During its meeting held on August 21, the Cabinet approved a resolution to make an area around the Khuvsgul Lake an Eco-tourism region in order to safeguard the eco-system of the Lake and develop sustainable and environment-friendly tourism. The Khuvsgul Lake, containing almost 70 percent of Mongolia's fresh water, is one of the most popular tourism destinations of Mongolia and surrounded by beautiful landscapes.

Green loans to be provided to individuals
The Ministry of Environment and Tourism and the National Committee for Environmental Pollution Reduction signed an agreement on Green loan with three commercial banks on August 15. The loan is targeted to finance the home insulation, electric heating and eco toilets of ger area residents.

On August 14, the Adventist Development and Relief Agency (ADRA) Mongolia, global humanitarian organization, in cooperation with the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry organized a discussion under the theme “Proper pasture management and breeding of fine wool sheep”. The meeting convened to deliberate on issues of pastureland degradation, which affected some 60 percent of the land surface of Mongolia and its prevention.

Tost and Toson Bumba Mountain Nature Reserve boundary expanded
Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. During the Cabinet meeting held today, August 14, a resolution was approved to take a total of 896.5 thousand ha land of the Tost and Toson Bumba Mountain nature reserve under State Special Protection, after expanding previous boundary by 154.3 thousand ha.
Mining license of "South Gobi Coal Trans” company revoked
On August 12, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism and Mineral Resources and Petroleum Authority, the Implementing Agency of the Mongolian Government made a decision to withdraw the special license for mining granted to the “South Gobi Coal Trans” company on a specially protected zone of Tost, Toson Bumba Nature Reserve in Gurvantes soum of Umnugobi aimag, Minister of Environment and Tourism N.Tserenbat informed.
