Mongolia-China Young Scientists Exchange Program to be implemented
On May 2, Prime Minister J.Erdenebat met with the delegates of Chinese Academy of Sciences led by its President Bai Chunli who are on a visit to Mongolia at the invitation of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences. At the beginning of the meeting, the PM J.Erdenebat expressed his view that this visit plays an important role for the development of bilateral ties between the science academies of Mongolia and China and of two countries. He added "Developing friendly relations and cooperation with the People’s Republic of China is one of the priorities of Mongolian foreign policy. I am quite satisfied with deepening of the comprehensive strategic partnership of Mongolia and China in all spheres”.

Mongolia's Steppe Road and China's Belt and Road initiatives to be harmonized
Yesterday, in its meeting the cabinet discussed and backed draft memorandum of understanding between Governments of Mongolia and People’s Republic of China (PRC) on coordinating initiatives ‘Steppe road’ and ‘The Belt and Road’. ‘The Belt and Road’ initiative has become interior and foreign policy strategy of PRC since Chinese leader Xi Jinping had proposed it and China appeals countries of the world to join the initiative. The initiative focuses on connectivity and cooperation in policy coordination, infrastructure construction, trade and finance and people to people relations among 65 countries, covering East Asian 11 countries, West Asian 18, South Asian 8, Central Asian 5, Commonwealth of Independent States’ 7, Middle east and east European 16 countries

Deputy Foreign Minister receives Japanese State Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications
B.Battsetseg, Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs received Kenji Harada, member of the House of Representatives and State Minister of Internal Affairs and Communications of Japan on May 2, 2017. Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs B.Battsetseg highlighted the extent of high level Strategic Partnership between Mongolia and Japan, increase in visit frequencies and deepened political trust, further noting the importance of taking Strategic Partnership to the next level.

Erdenet mine shows profit of MNT86.7 billion in first quarter
Erdenet Mining Corporation, one of the largest copper mine has worked with a profit of MNT86.7 billion, paying tax of MNT135.5 billion in the first quarter of this year. Yesterday, May 02, Parliamentary Economic Standing Committee heard of current situation and other issues related to the company. Some factors including copper price in the world market and exchange rates have influenced to work in such profit, said the Company Director Kh.Badamsuren.

President pays working visit to Erdenet city
President Ts.Elbegdorj arrived in Erdenet city on May 1, Monday to pay a working visit to Orkhon aimag, and held a meeting with locals to discuss the results of his activities during his tenure from 2009 to 2017.

Parliamentary resolution clause to be reconsidered
The Mongolian People’s Party (MPP) group in parliament reached an agreement that Parliamentary resolution clause on transmission of big projects’ money through Mongolian banks should be reconsidered.  Today, the party group chairman D.Khayankyarvaa made a briefing after the group’s meeting.

Neil Saker: IMF is cautious about investment environment worsening
The International Monetary Fund Executive Board has postponed making a final decision on its Extended Financial Facility (EFF) in Mongolia. The delay is caused by a parliamentary resolution clause on currency transmission of large-scale projects through Mongolian banks. The Executive Board was expected to make the final decision during their meeting last week. Today, on May 02, IMF Resident Representative Neil Saker gave explanations regarding the issue during a press conference at the State House. He said that the EFF has two main goals, including overcoming economic difficulties and creating policy foundation that ensures economic growth in the long term. Policy measures will be largely implemented on budget. The IMF backs the Government plan to reduce budget deficit, lowering it to 10.5 per cent of GDP this year and to have a positive balance by the beginning of 2020.

German taxidermists restoring Bogd Khan's collection of stuffed bird
Bogd Khan Palace Museum, in collaboration with the National University of Mongolia, National History Museum and Naturmuseum Senckenberg of Germany, has started the restoration of stuffed birds of the Bogd Khan Palace Museum. Also, the identification list of the bird species in the collection will be improved.

15.2 million offspring healthy on national level
As of May 1, birth rate of domestic animals stands at 59 percent, reports the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry. Out of 26 million dams counted on the national level, 15.4 million dams have delivered offspring.

Concession agreements, which totaled MNT11.1 trillion, will be audited, following the recommendation by the International Monetary Fund in connection with the implementation of its Extended Fund Facility program and to define the possibilities of financing them.

25 percent of mortgage lending to be provided in rural areas
A decision has been made to grant 25 percent of all mortgage lendings in the rural area. Bank of Mongolia gave a direction to the commercial banks to issue 25 percent of the central bank’s mortgage loans to lenders in rural areas. This settles the issue of borrowers whose request for a mortgage loan was approved, but were waiting for the funding and will further enable mortgage loan accessibility in the rural areas of the country.
