Opening ceremony for the “Whole Liver –Mongolia” National Program took place last Friday at the central square of Ulaanbaatar. The program for improving liver health was approved by the cabinet on April 12.

OSCE observers to start their mission by end of May
Long-term observers of Office for Democratic Institutions and Human Rights, (ODIHR), the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) will come to Mongolia by the end of this month for the upcoming presidential election scheduled for June 26. They will observe election campaign, electoral process, way of solving complaints and petitions and activities of media organizations during the election.

Rio bronze medalist E.Sodnompiljee wins gold in World Para Powerlifting World Cup
Mongolian State Honored Athlete E.Sodnompiljee, who is a winner of the bronze medal of the Rio Olympics 2016 claimed a gold medal from the Eger 2017 World Para Powerlifting World Cup. The competition took place in Eger city of Hungary from May 4 to 7.

National Language and Script Day observed
May 5, Friday saw a ceremony in front of the National Library in connection to National Language and Script Day which was co-observed on May 7, by the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, National Council on Language Policy under the President, Committee on Culture and Arts, National University of Mongolia, Library of Ulaanbaatar, Children’s Library, Junior Center of Creative Arts and Institute of Language and Literature of Mongolian Academy of Sciences.

Prime Minister sets up council of national brands
The Council on Mongolian National Brands has been established in accordance with a direction of the Prime Minister. The council is chaired by the Prime Minister, Mr J.Erdenebat. Head of the Cabinet Secretariat J.Munkhbat acts as the deputy chairman and some cabinet members, as vacant members of this council. The national brand council convened for its first meeting and approved its rules and action plan for 2017 on May 5.

Feasibility study of ‘Coal to Synthetic natural gas’ complex is ready
A feasibility study of ‘Coal to Synthetic natural gas’ project was developed by Wuhuan Engineering company of the People’s Republic of China. Today, May 5, the work was officially handed over to the Ministry of Mining and Heavy Industry of Mongolia. ‘Coal to Synthetic natural gas’ project is one of subcomponents of Mining Infrastructure Investment Support Project, financed by the World Bank soft loan.

National Language and Script Day unfolds "Literary Geniuses” exhibition
By the order of the President of Mongolia, National Language and Script Day takes place within the first week of May. This year, the National Language and Script Day is being celebrated under the slogan “National Script: Guarantee of Independence”. Within the framework, a series of exhibitions displaying literary culture and xylography traditions of the Mongolian people, research conferences on Mongolian literature, events promoting the literary works and calligraphies of famous Mongolian scholars of all generations and meetings between authors and readers are taking place.

‘Gobi Wolf 2017’ international exercise training concludes
A closing ceremony of the ‘Gobi Wolf’ international exercise was successfully held in Umnugobi aimag, on May 5. The field training was co-organized by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA), US Embassy in Ulaanbaatar and U.S. Army Pacific for the sixth time on May 01-05 with an aim to improve the regional readiness in response to natural disaster.

Promotion of formula milk to be restricted
Today, May 05, Parliament made its first hearing of bill on Infant food and food products at its plenary meeting. Feeding infants up to 3 years old with mother’s breast milk ensures babies to grow up healthy. However, babies have to be fed with imitation milk when the mother cannot feed her baby. The bill aims to regulate the use of breast-milk substitutes, including infant formula, depending on babies' needs with doctor’s advice, said MP Ts.Tsogzolmaa.

Mongolian model walks runway at Vietnam International Fashion Week
Mongolian photo model and Miss B.Gunzaya participated in a Vietnam International Fashion Week on April 25-28 in Ho Chi Minh City. She presented works by French designer Patrick Pem and Mongolian Fashion House “O Couture”. During the fashion week, over 20 collections by more than 20 international and domestic designers, including those from France, Australia, Portugal, the Republic of Korea, Thailand and Israel were presented by top models from South Korea, France, Russia and Vietnam.

Mongolian shooter Ch.Narantuya wins double gold in Egypt
Ch.Narantuya, International Master of Sports won two gold medals at the HH Sheikha Fatima Bint Mubarak Women’s International Shooting Championship, which was held between April 05 and 13 in Cairo, Egypt.  The competition was attended by athletes from over 10 countries, including Bahrain, India, Egypt and Mongolia. From Mongolia, Ch.Narantuya and Ts.Munkhzul successfully competed in the tournament.

MNT 23.9 billion invested for mortgage loan funding
By the end of April 2017, Bank of Mongolia invested a total of MNT23.9 billion for financing of mortgage loan program to commercial banks. Mortgage loans were granted to 383 borrowers in Ulaanbaatar and 322 in rural area. According to a renewed regulation of mortgage funding, BoM finances mortgage loans every month with repayments of bond principal and coupon, which are guaranteed by mortgage.

Parliament cancelled its decision to pass big projects' sales income through Mongolian banks
The second clause of Parliamentary resolution number 29, which indicated to raise state currency reserve by passing sales income of big projects with foreign investment through accounts of Mongolian banks, was cancelled during yesterday’s (May 4) plenary session of the Parliament. 65.5 per cent or 36 MPs out of the attended 55 backed to cancel the clause. On April 14, parliament approved amendments to the 2017 state budget and other following laws and resolutions, which included resolution number 29. The Budgetary standing committee of Parliament developed a draft resolution to cancel the clause, in a request by Finance Minister, because it has caused difficult condition to implement joint program with the International Monetary Fund.
