2017 meeting of a working group of the Dauria International Protected Area (DIPA) was held on May 4-5 in Choibalsan city of Dornod aimag, where the Mongol Daguur or Dauria the steppe and wetland region of Mongolia is located.

Mongolian team wins third place in Asian Draughts Championship
Asian Draughts Championship 2017 took place in Tashkent, Uzbekistan between April 15 and 28. From among the players of over 10 countries such as China, Uzbekistan, Kazakhstan, Kuwait, Japan, Turkmenistan and Lebanon, Mongolians won 34 medals which consists of 13 gold, 13 silver and 8 bronze medals.

World War II heroes honored on the occasion of Victory Day
Today, May 09, ceremonies to pay respect to the heroes of the war were held at the Monument of Soviet Soldiers on the Zaisan Hill and the Monument of Marshal of the Soviet Union G.K.Zhukov in Ulaanbaatar, dedicated to the 72th anniversary of the victory in the Great Patriotic War.  Representatives from the Ministry of Defense, General Staff of the Armed Forces and Embassies of Russian Federation, Belarus and Kazakhstan in Mongolia and Mongolian and Russian citizens took part in the ceremonies.

Mongolia-Vietnam Business Meeting takes place
In scope of the official visit of Ms Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam to Mongolia, a Mongolia-Vietnam Business Meeting was co-organized by the Embassy of Vietnam, Vietnam Chamber of Commerce and Industry and Mongolian Employers’ Federation today, May 9 at Tuushin Hotel.

Mountaineer D.Otgonkhuu wins Red Fox Elbrus Race
Mongolian mountaineer D.Otgonkhuu gained a gold medal from the international Red Fox Elbrus Race 2017, by mountain running to the top of the Mount Elbrus /5642 meters/ for 2 hours, 59 minutes and 13 seconds. The annual international race was held on the Mount Elbrus, the highest mountain in Europe, from May 1 to 5.

One of the first-rate table tennis referees in Mongolia E.Munkhbilegt was invited to act as a referee in the XXIX Summer Universiade, which is scheduled to take place in Taipei city in Taiwan between August 19 and 30, 2017.

Justice Minister paying working visit to China
Member of Parliament and Minister of Justice and Home Affairs S.Byambatsogt is paying a working visit to the People’s Republic of China on May 8-12. Within the visit, an action plan of cooperation in 2017-2021 between the Minister of Justice and Home Affairs of Mongolia and Ministry of Public Security of China was signed.

Four boxers win medals at Asian Championship
International Masters of Sports G.Gan-Erdene and B.Chinzorig made the final fight for gold in their respective weights yesterday, May 8, at the Asian Boxing Championships. They both claimed silver medals.

Red-listed tree planted in Dundgobi province
A very rare 'tooroi tree' registered in the Red Book of Mongolia have been planted in Dundgobi aimag for the first time, with an initiative of NAB Group director B.Amarsanaa. Though tooroi, one of the species of populous tree is a Gobi desert plant, it does not grow in Dundgobi aimag.  “- We planted 60 tooroi trees. The tree needs a lot of watering. If these trees accustom to soil and grows well, we will plant more next year” said Mr.B.Amarsanaa. The trees will grow edging foothill of the Bor Ovoo Hill, in a park of Mandalgobi city. The tree seedlings were brought from the Alxa League (Alshaa aimag) of Inner Mongolia, autonomous region of PRC, where a forest of tooroi grows, attracting hundreds of tourists.

Deputy Foreign Minister B.Battsetseg meets her Turkish counterpart
On May 8, Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia B.Battsetseg received Deputy Minister of Foreign Affairs of Turkey Ambassador Ahmet Yıldız, who is paying a visit to Mongolia on May 6-9. At the meeting, Deputy Minister B.Battsetseg expressed her satisfaction with the successful development of the bilateral relations between Mongolia and Turkey in areas of politics, defense, culture and education. She then noted that the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia would like to cooperate with Turkey to intensify bilateral economic and trade ties in the future.

Mongolian wrestlers head to Asian Championship 2017
“Asian Championship 2017”, a continental championship is scheduled to take place in New Delhi, India between May 10 and 14. Organized by the Asian Associated Wrestling Committee, the tournament will take place in 3 categories of Freestyle Seniors (in 57, 61, 65, 70, 74, 86 and 97 kg weight range), Greco-Roman (in 59, 66, 71, 75, 80 and 85 kg weight range) and Women’s wrestling Seniors (in 48, 53, 55, 58, 60, 63, 69 and 75 kg weight range).

MCC targets to improve water supply and sanitation of Ulaanbaatar
On May 8, Mayor of Ulaanbaatar S.Batbold received Ms. Fatema Z. Sumar, the Regional Deputy Vice President of the Millennium Challenge Corporation’s /MCC/ who is paying a working visit to Mongolia on May 8 to 9.    The MCC's Investment Management Committee held its meeting on April 5 to make a decision to commence feasibility studies and detailed studies of projects to be implemented under the second MCC compact in with Mongolia. In this connection, Ms. Fatema Z. Sumar arrived in Ulaanbaatar to meet with authorities of Ulaanbaatar city, including Mayor of Ulaanbaatar  and line ministries exchanging views on further cooperation.

Prime Minister presents plans for construction, urban and road transport development
During the Parliament’s plenary session on May 5, Prime Minister of Mongolia J.Erdenebat discussed the current issues of construction, urban and road transportation development. According to PM J.Erdenebat, issues regarding the redraft of the policy on construction and construction material industry, development of construction material production and its exports are currently being considered. Also, a funding of the establishment of a whole sale supply network of construction materials in Zamiin-uud free trade zone, “Nalaikh” construction material industry and general plans of Baganuur Industrial Park have been settled and is now preparing the blueprints. With previous programs and investments, cement producing companies have started supplying 100 percent of the domestic needs since the first quarter of 2017 and is ready to export.

Japanese culture day to take place on May 20
On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Mongolia-Japan Center for Human Resources Development, 'Japanese Culture Day' festival will take place at the Mongolia-Japan Center in Ulaanbaatar on May 20, Saturday.    During the event, ‘How well do you know Japan? quiz, Japanese song competition and Japanese tea ceremony will be organized. Also, calligraphy arts of Japan and furoshiki - traditional Japanese wrapping cloth will be presented.

Vietnamese Vice President pays courtesy call on Parliament Speaker
Today, May 8, Vice President of the Socialist Republic of Vietnam Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh, who is paying an official visit to Mongolia, paid a courtesy call on Parliament Speaker M.Enkhbold, talking about bilateral relations and cooperation between Mongolia and Vietnam.  Speaker M.Enkhbold expressed his confidence that the visit would give important influence to strengthen traditional friendly relations and sustain the frequency of political talks. He highlighted the significance of inter-parliament cooperation to the relationship of the countries, expressing his content with widened relations between friendship groups in the parliaments, standing committees and Parliamentary offices of the two countries.

Mongolia might export up to 200 tons of goat meat to Vietnam
Minister of Foreign Affairs Ts.Munkh-Orgil made press briefing about the ongoing official visit of the Vice President of Vietnam, Ms Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh on May 8. The latter is accompanied by more than 20 businesspeople. Two countries’ business representatives will explore cooperation opportunities at the business forum to commence tomorrow, noted the FM.
