Foreign Minister attends 73th session of ESCAP
The 73th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) of the United Nations is taking place in Bangkok, Thailand between May 15 and 19. Ts.Munkh-Orgil, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia is paying a working visit in Bangkok, Thailand to attend the session as a panelist. The session is being held under the theme “Regional cooperation for sustainable energy” with an attendance of 45 members of ESCAP and delegates of other UN agencies.

Government obstacles to businesses to be eliminated legitimately
478 licenses out of 914, that are equired to be obtained by business entities were cancelled to support businesspeople through reducing barriers and red tape and the issue will be improved further by passing a law on Special license, said Minister of Justice and Home Affairs S.Byambatsogt. Today, the minister attended “Business breakfast” organized by Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, sharing his views with businessmen on legal environment of businesses and pressing issues.

Museums present their activities for International Museum Day
The annual International Museum Day is being held today, on May 18 under the theme “Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in Museums” in front of the 'National Museum of Mongolia' in Ulaanbaatar. Created by the XI assembly of the International Council of Museums in Moscow, 1977, the celebration took place for the first time in May 18, 1978 in over 150 countries around the world. Since then, the International Museum Day has become a tradition for the museums of every country to celebrate under certain theme on May 18. As for Mongolia, this day was celebrated for the first time in 2003 and is now facing 14th consecutive year, as of today.

Mongolian heritage day held at World Bank Headquarters
Mongolian Embassy in USA in collaboration with the World Bank organized ‘Mongolian Heritage Day’ cultural event on May 16-17 at the WB Headquarters in Washington, D.C., US.  The event, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and USA, was attended by representatives from US State Department, US Department of Defense, World Bank, International Monetary Fund and Mongolians people residing in the US as well as foreigners who are interested in Mongolia.

Barriers in public spaces to be removed
Fences, walls or any barriers that create obstacles to pavement, exit or entrance of public places and auto road will be removed to free public spaces. The works, which have been done to improve passing capacity of streets, pavements and roads, were reported to the Capital Governor’s Council yesterday and Ulaanbaatar Mayor S.Batbold assigned relevant officials to intensify the works.

During its regular meeting on May 17, Wednesday, the Cabinet approved the instructions for Mongolian delegates to partake in the first meeting of Mongolia-Kuwait Intergovernmental Commission which is to take place on May 23-24 in Kuwait city.

Renewable energy network to be established between Mongolia and Russia
Prime Minister of Mongolia J.Erdenebat received Oleg Mikhailovich Budargin, the Director General of Russian “Rosseti” LLC on May 16. On behalf of “Rosseti” LLC, Mr. Oleg Mikhailovich Budargin expressed the company’s intention in implementing renewable energy network establishing project. And PM J.Erdenebat agreed upon the request to deploy working group to establish 500W renewable energy network between Mongolia and Russia.

Bogd Khan's Red Palace and its Contested History exhibition to take place
On the occasion of the International Museum Day, the “Bogd Khan Palace Museum” is planning to open an exhibition under the theme “The Bogd Khan’s Red Palace and its Contested History”. The opening ceremony will be held at the Bogd Khan Palace Museum, in the Ceremonial Square in front of the Peace and Happiness Gate on May 18, tomorrow.

Central region forum of mining sector takes place in Orkhon aimag
On May 15-16, a central region forum of mining industry held in Orkon aimag on the occasion of the 95th anniversary of the mining sector development in Mongolia. Representatives of miners and mining researchers and delegates of Darkah-Uul, Orkhon, Selenge, Khuvsgul, Bulgan, Tuv, Arkhangai and Uvurkhangai aimags and public and private organizations, including Ministry of Environment and Tourism, Ministry of Energy, General Department of Taxation and General Agency for Specialized Inspection were in attendance.

Emergency response team saves lives of 622 people this year
Since the beginning of this year, the National Emergency Management Agency of Mongolia (NEMA) has saved 622 people and protected properties cost around MNT 5.6 billion in total from natural disasters. In 2016, 1300 people and properties of MNT 24.5 billion were rescued in times of natural disaster as well.

IMF Executive Board to discuss Mongolia's request next Wednesday
The International Monetary Fund Executive Board is scheduled to discuss Mongolia's request to implement Extended Fund Facility (EFF) during its meeting on May 24. Minister of Finance B.Choijilsuren was interviewed on this matter and other issues concerning the EFF program. Has the meeting schedule of the IMF Executive Board been confirmed? Is there a guarantee that the meeting will not be delayed again? Minister of Foreign Affairs Ts.Munkh-Orgil gave an interview to the media about Prime Minister J.Erdenebat’s visit to the People’s Republic of China. The Minister said “- The two countries agreed that the countries have full potential to develop bilateral relations as we have no political argument and no conflict on border issues, which share borderline of 4700 km".

Director of UNESCO Cluster Office in Jakarta attends Mongolian Innovation Week
Dr. Shahbaz Khan, Director of the UNESCO Cluster Office in Jakarta and Regional Bureau for Science in Asia and the Pacific, attended  the Mongolian Innovation Week - 2017 events during his visit to Mongolia between May 9 and 12. Within the framework of the annual Mongolian Innovation Week - 2017 organized by the Mongolian University of Science and Technology (MUST), the National Innovation Forum was held on May 10 and Dr. Shahbaz Khan gave a keynote speech on “Science, Engineering, Technology and Innovation for Sustainable development”.  Also, he delivered a presentation on “Role of Science, Technology and Innovation to deliver UN 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development” at an International conference on Innovation and Entrepreneurship Development on May 11.
