Mongolia Wins Gold at World Judo Cadets Championships for 2nd Year

Ulaanbaatar, September 1, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Six Mongolian athletes competed on the third day of the 2025 World Judo Cadets Championship in Sofia, the Republic of Bulgaria, bringing home gold and bronze medals on August 30, 2025.
Specifically, in the women’s 57 kg weight category, Tsendbazar Mashbat of the “Winner” club won the gold medal, and Mongolia’s national anthem echoed through celebration in Sofia. Tsendbazar, leading Group C, defeated Hanna Babulfat of Sweden in the first round, Danai Dimou of Greece in the round of 16, Ekaterina Zhdanova of Russia in the quarterfinals, and Magdalena Valega of Poland in the semifinals. In the final, Tsendbazar defeated Japanese judoka Nonoka Yamakawa by yuko to claim the world championship title and became the second Mongolian athlete to win the World Junior Championship in the women’s 57 kg weight category. Notably, Mongolian athletes have won this category in consecutive years. In 2024, Ariunzaya Terbish, from the “Guru Dojo” club, won in this same category.
Mongolia's second athlete in the women’s 57 kg weight category, Enkhjin Gankhuyag, won a bronze medal. Enkhjin defeated Tinatin Gulbani of Georgia in the round of 16, Yulia Siemko of Poland in the quarterfinals, and Elif Kilic of Turkey in the quarterfinals before falling to Nonoka Yamakawa of Japan in the semifinals. Enkhjin then defeated Ekaterina Zhdanova of Russia in the bronze medal match, earning her place on the podium. Remarkably, two Mongolian athletes won medals in the same weight category on the same day.
After the first three days of competition, the Mongolian team ranked sixth overall with one gold and two bronze medals. On August 30, 2025, the boys’ -90 kg and +90 kg, and the girls’ -70 kg and +70kg weight categories were contested. Representing Mongolia in these divisions were Amartuvshin Namsraijav, Munkhbagana Galsandamba, Delger Jadamba, and Tergelnaran Banzragch.
