Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The National University of Mongolia (NUM) and the National Cancer Center (NCC) signed an agreement on their joint research ‘Cancer diagnosis, treatment and prevention’ on October 8. The experts emphasized that the research plays important role in creating research database, developing cancer medicines from plants growing in Mongolia and increasing capacity of human resources of both parties.

President of the NUM Ya.Tumurbaatar said “The NUM has been researching Mongolian plants for more than ten years. Compared with plants of other countries, plants in our country are more resistant. The cooperation agreement was signed in order to develop herbal medicine suitable for Mongolians by combining these studies with the studies of the cancer cells of Mongolians, and make a contribution to world medicine in the future.”

“Thanks to skilled researchers, the NUM established its research database in 1940. The NCC has accumulated a lot of experience in cancer treatment. Thus, it is remarkable that we are launching a study on cancer treatment based on our studies and experience. Mongolia has the world’s highest liver cancer rate. Additionally, the studies of Mongolian scientists on liver cancer cells linked to oncogenesis will play an important role in preventing cancer and revealing cancer causes,” said J.Chinburen, General Director of NCC.

The joint research of the two parties has been already launched. In this regard the NUM professor J.Batkhuu noted “We started our first study on the cancer cell of the NCC patient with antibiotic resistant pathogen. The patient is unable to undergo the surgery due to deterioration of the immune system and the antibiotics won’t help. The study found that traditional medicinal plants such as rosebay willowherb and scabiosa were effective for the treatment. The study will be continued and we will study cancer cells of the Mongolians in the future.
