Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Confederation of Mongolian Journalists (CMJ) is planning to organize a national forum themed ‘Accountable Journalism’ among journalists.

Kh.Mandakhbayar, President of the CMJ, met Ulaanbaatar Mayor S.Batbold on April 6 regarding the upcoming forum and to seek cooperation with the capital city administration. About 80 percent of all active media organizations are centered in Ulaanbaatar.

“The team heading the CMJ is working on a new management approach, and the matters of housing for journalists and the establishment of a Journalists’ Palace are foremost issues,” the President said.

In anticipation of the World Press Freedom Day, which falls on May 3, the CMJ will be holding the national journalism forum, the President informed, expressing the Confederation’s interest in working with the city administration.

For his part, Mayor S.Batbold expressed his willingness to assist the CMJ in organizing the national forum and to look into the projects on 1000-apartments for journalists and the Journalists’ Palace.

“I believe that Mongolian media plays its role to ensure the citizens’ right to information well,” he remarked. Mayor S.Batbold previously worked in a Parliamentary working group in charge of drafting Law on Freedom of Media.
