Mongolia and Qatar wish to boost economic ties

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The Minister of Foreign Affairs, Mr  Ts.Munkh-Orgil met with the non-resident ambassador of the State of Qatar to Mongolia, Mr Sultan Salmiin Al-Mansouri on Thursday, to exchange views on the Mongolia-Qatar relations and cooperation.

The Foreign Minister highlighted an importance of exchanging high-level visits, boosting economic cooperation, particularly drawing investments from Qatar to Mongolia, while underlining that the Mongolia-Qatar relations have been developing in certain spheres.

The Ambassador informed the Minister of that the Qatari side has studied the feasibilities for making investments and emphasized an importance of improving the legal grounds for foreign investment in Mongolia. The Ambassador said he believes that direct flights would promote tourists flow between the two countries and the people-to-people contacts, and added that regular events on Mongolia’s history and culture  has been hosted in Qatar.

Mongolia and Qatar established diplomatic ties on January 23, 1998. The defense relations are witnessing more progress. In 2006, the Government of Qatar rendered non-refundable aid of USD 10 million for the implementation of the Millenium Road Project, and also provided assistance to Mongolian athletes, who took part in the Asian Games which was held in Doha, Qatar.
