Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. In aims of promoting national heritage, history and culture and passing it down to future generations, Karakorum city has been created in VR (virtual reality) based on archeological discoveries and historical facts known so far.

The ancient city will be available to view for free on YouTube at 7 pm local time on December 29, 2020.

Created using modern advanced technology, the project is being implemented by the National University of Mongolia, and the Mongolian company, ‘Digital Solutions’, with financing from the Science and Technology Fund and Rio Tinto Mongolia. The Ministry of Education and Science, Culture and Arts Authority, National Center for Cultural Heritage, Higher Education and Engineering Development project, Mongol Costumes, Kharakhorum Museum, Tumen Khishigten, Ocurus, Institute for Mongolian Studies, and FW Media are also supporting the project.

Per the decree issued by Chinggis Khaan in 1220, the capital city of the Great Mongol Empire came to be located in Karakorum. It was officially recognized as the capital city from the reign of Ogedei Khaan. In the 13th century, the city served as the hub for global civilization, gathering travelers, officials, nobles, and scholars from Asia and Europe.
