Khovd /MONTSAME/. The Museum of Khovd Aimag keeps a mala with 108 beads made out of human forehead bones. In the past, this kind of mala was accepted to be used by monks with a rank higher than “Gabju”. The bone mala weighs 190 grams.
The exhibit dates back to the 20th century. The owner of the mala was Dambi Dome, Khamba Lama of the Shar /yellow/ Monastery in Khovd aimag. Later, in 1950, it was obtained by the Museum of Khovd Aimag.
