Khaan Quest-2024 Multinational Peacekeeping Exercise Ongoing
PoliticsUlaanbaatar, July 29, 2024 /MONTSAME/. “Khaan Quest-2024” multinational peacekeeping exercise is taking place at the Tavan Tolgoi (Five Hills) Training Facility, outside Ulaanbaatar, Mongolia.
The Khaan Quest was first held in 2003, jointly organized by the Mongolian Armed Forces and the U.S. Indo-Pacific Command, and expanded to a multinational peacekeeping exercise in 2006.
The “Khaan Quest-2024” multinational peacekeeping exercise’s goals are:
- To strengthen military trust and defense cooperation between the Mongolian Armed Forces, the U.S. Army Pacific Command, and the armies of the countries participating in the exercise
- To increase the capacity of the Mongolian Armed Forces in peacekeeping operations
- To improve multinational cooperation in peacekeeping and provide necessary capacity-building support to militaries to meet the requirements of the United Nations peacekeeping operations.
Participants in this year’s Khan Quest include:
- Military training group consisting of military trainers from seven countries including the United States, Australia, Canada, Japan, the Philippines, Indonesia, and Vietnam.
- For the platoon field training exercise, 11 platoons from 10 countries such as the United States, the People’s Republic of China, the Republic of Korea, the Republic of Turkiye, the Republic of India, Japan (two platoons), Qatar, and Mongolia.
- 460 participants from 20 countries, involving observer countries such as Saudi Arabia, the United Arab Emirates, Kuwait, Egypt, and Pakistan.
The Opening Ceremony of the multinational peacekeeping operation on July 27, 2024, was attended by Minister of Defense of Mongolia Byambatsogt Sandag, Chief of the General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces Major General Ganbyamba Sunrev, officials from the Office of President of Mongolia, Ministry of Defense, General Staff of the Mongolian Armed Forces, Mongolian defense and law enforcement organizations, commanders of the military branches of the Mongolian Armed Forces, Ambassadors to Mongolia, military attachés, and military personnel from the countries participating in the “Khaan Quest-2024.”
