Ulaanbaatar, August 26, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Mongolian artist and painter A. Baasansuren, a member of the Mongolian Felt Art Council, is developing a new trend of cashmere painting in Mongolia.

During participation in the “Nomads” World Cultural Festival, A. Baasansuren said, “I graduated from the Institute of Fine Arts with a major in graphic art and first began experimenting with wool painting. Because wool fibers are coarse, it wasn't easy to create fine and realistic details. That is why I started using finer cashmere fibers, which are flexible and delicate, allowing me to achieve greater precision. Wool and cashmere artworks bring a warm atmosphere and positive energy into the home. In shamanic tradition, felt appliqués in the form of animals are believed to have the unique power to summon energies from the spiritual world.”

A. Baasansuren presented the first solo exhibition, “Cashmere Felt Art,” at the Mongolia Art Gallery in 2021, showcasing innovative works. The artworks are primarily realistic, often depicting nature, animals, and livestock such as horses, wolves, and lambs, reflecting a childhood spent close to the livestock.

The artwork “Amarbaysgalant Khiid” was selected as the Best Decorative Art at the 2022 “Beautiful Country of Mongolia” exhibition and was also recognized among the “Top 10 Nomadic Cultural Heritage Works.” Baasandorj is currently a member of the Union of Mongolian Artists, was awarded the title Merited Artist of the Culture of Mongolia, and was recognized by the International Innovation Center as a Creator in Cashmere Painting.

Works by A. Baasansuren have also been exhibited internationally, including at the small- and medium-sized producers’ fair held in Nantes, French Republic.
