Mongolian Ganjur Presented to Buddhist Institutions Across the Country

Ulaanbaatar, November 12, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On November 11, 2025, the Gandantegchenling Monastery, Mongolia’s center of Buddhism, together with the Embassy of India in Mongolia, presented 40 sets of the Mongolian Ganjur (Kanjur) to Buddhist monasteries and institutions across the country.


Each set of the Kanjur comprises 108 volumes. The reprinting was carried out by the National Manuscripts Mission under the Indira Gandhi National Centre for the Arts, Ministry of Culture of India.


Head of the Gandantegchenling Monastery, Khambo Nomun Khan, Venerable Geshe Lharampa Javzandorj Dulamragchaa, expressed his gratitude to the Government of India for sending 40 sets of the Kanjur. Ambassador Atul Malhari Gotsurve remarked, “The Kanjur is the most important religious text, the teachings of Buddha, a compilation of his spoken words. The Buddha’s principles of Panchsheel, or peaceful coexistence, remain relevant even today.” The Ambassador also cited Prime Minister of India Narendra Modi’s statement that India and Mongolia are “spiritual brothers” and emphasized the importance of the Buddha’s teachings of peace amid ongoing global conflicts.


In addition, the Gandantegchenling Monastery and the Embassy of India launched a joint project to digitize one million Buddhist manuscripts preserved at the monastery. The project, funded through a grant from the Government of India, aims to help preserve ancient Buddhist manuscripts in digital form.
