3.9 magnitude earthquake recorded in Bayan-Ulgii aimag

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. A 3.9 magnitude earthquake has been
recorded approximately 11 km northwest of Altantsugts soum, Bayan-Ulgii aimag.
The Institute of Meteorology and Geophysics has reported
that the earthquake struck the area at 2:50 PM, today, January 6.
According to the National Statistics Office, 56
occurrences of 3.5 magnitude or stronger earthquakes were recorded in 2020, but
255 quakes have been reported last year. Compared to 2010 when 31 earthquakes happened,
the number of occurrences increased by eight times in the last decade.
