Velvet hat worn by wives

Arkhangai /MONTSAME/. Originating from the early 20th century, this hat is made of velvet and cotton. The exhibit is kept in the collection of the Museum of Arkhangai aimag.


Worn by wives during the time, the hat has a black velvet band, spotty red fold, high crown, two silk drapes, and red tassels. With a gemstone in the middle of the band, there is a red and white decorative knot at the top of the hat. The hat’s total weight is 365 grams.

 

Purchased from a citizen of Tsetserleg city named Buyankhishig, it was added to the museum collection in 1968.
