23.7 million livestock breed offspring in first half of 2020

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In the first half of 2020, from
expected 31.0 million of dam livestock at the end of 2019, 23.7 million (76.5%)
bred offspring at national level, of which 80.8% were ewes, 74.2% were female
goats, 71.2% were cows, 63.3% were mares and 47.4% were female camels.
From the total offsping, 95.8% or 22.8 million heads have
survived, which is decreased by 44.9 thousand heads (0.2%) compared to the same
period of previous year.
The natural losses of adult livestock reached 1.3 million
heads in the first half of 2020, increased by 573.7 thousand heads (78.0%)
compared with the same period of the previous year. In June 2020, the natural
losses of livestock amounted to 95.1 thousand heads, decreased by 195.5
thousand heads (3.1 times more) compared with the same period of the previous
month.
Of the total losses of adult animals, 2.7 percent was lost due to diseases, 8.1 percent due to natural disasters and 89.1 percent due to other reasons such as wild animal depredation such as wolves, bears, leopards, falls through the ice, hunger and chill etc.
