Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. Teachers and staff of Mongolian-Korean Polytechnic College are excited to be able to communicate with their students who have hearing impairments, said the TVET teachers after two weeks of basic and intermediate sign language training. In order to create inclusive TVET for all, sign language blended training (online and classroom) was organized within ‘Cooperative Technical and Vocational Education and Training’ (cTVET) project in cooperation with ‘Deaf Education’ NGO.

Many students with hearing impairments study at Mongolian Korean Polytechnic College. For example, last year the computer information technology class had a total of 13 students and 8 out of them were students with hearing impairment. A Teacher of computer information technology, who participated in the training, said: "I had to communicate with my students by writing, but they usually don’t know technical words in written form. Also, their writing skills are not as well as their sign language. Being able to use sign language, I am happy that it will enable me to communicate with all my students more freely and provide quality training to all. I have met and demonstrated the sign language I have learned to a graduate from my class. He was very pleased to see I could sign and motivated me to learn further."

The cTVET project implements activities to improve the accessibility of TVET institutions and to capacitate school staff and teachers to provide inclusive training.

Commissioned by the BMZ, the cTVET project is funded by the Governments of Germany, Australia, Korea and being implemented by Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) in close partnership with Ministry of Labour and Social Protection.
