Livestock population reaches 61 million
Economy | AgricultureUlaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At the end of 2016, the livestock population in Mongolia reached over 61 million with a 9.9 percent of annual increase, according to the National Statistical Office of Mongolia (NSOM)’s preliminary report "Livestock Census-2016" released on December 27, 2016.
Population of horse has risen by 330 thousand cattle by 290 thousand camel by 30 thousand sheep by 2 million 910 thousand and goats by 1 million 970 thousand respectively since 2015.
Sheep population has made up 11.7 percent of the total livestock population, whereas goat population has formed 8.4 percent, cattle 7.9 percent, horse 10.3 percent and the population of camels accounted for 9.1 percent of the livestock population. The percentage of sheep in the total livestock population has grown by 0.7 points, while the percentages of horse and camel didn’t change.
Aimags (province) with the highest increase in livestock population were Arkhangai, Bayan-Olgii, Bayankhongor, Bulgan, Gobi-Altai, Dornod, Dundgobi, Zavkhan, Uvurkhangai, Omnogobi, Selenge, Tov, Uvs, Khovd, Khovsgol, Khentii, Darkhan-Uul and Orkhon, reported NSOM.
