Gankhaich Wins Bronze Medal at World Judo Championships

Ulaanbaatar, June 17, 2025 /MONTSAME/. On the fourth day of the World Judo Championships in Budapest, Hungary, international master Gangkhaich Bold won a bronze medal in the women's -63 kg weight category.
Judoka Gangkhaich defeated Korea's Shin Chaewon and
Austria's Ljubljana Piovesana in the first round to advance to the
quarterfinals. However, Gankhaich lost to Japan's Haruka Kaju in the group
stage, she defeated the host country's Szabina Gercsak in the next match to
qualify for the bronze medal. In the deciding match, with 24 seconds left, Gankhaich
threw Rafaela Silva from Brazil, two-time world champion and Olympic champion, and scored a Wazari to win the bronze medal.
Gangkhaich Bold becomes the 33rd world medalist or 20th bronze medal winner at the World Judo Championships.
It is her second medal at an international competition this year, having won a gold medal at the Dushanbe Grand Slam last month. After missing competitions for over a year due to a serious injury, Gankhaich has won nine medals in Grand Slam and Grand Prix competitions in addition to winning the Asian Judo Championships.
On the fourth day of the Championships, Honored Athlete of Mongolia Enkhriylen
Lhagvatogoo, who competed in the 63 kg weight category, defeated strong
opponents from Croatia and France, but she injured her hand while fighting for
the group championship with a Canadian judoka and finished in seventh place. In
the 81 kg weight category, young master Shinebayar Oyunchimeg lost to Nugzari
Tatalashvili from the United Arab Emitrates.
After four days, the
Mongolian judo team is ranked 11th out of 93 countries with two bronze medals.
Today, the men's 90 kg and women's 70 kg weight categories will be held. From Mongolia, international masters Nyam-Erdene Batsuuri and Yesui Darkhanbatbayar will compete in the 70 kg category.
