“Yak of Saikhan” festival held at Gurvansaikhan Mountain
‘Yaks of Saikhan- 2017” festival was held on May 27 at Yoliin am (Yol Gorge) of Gurvan Saikhan Mountains in Khankhongor soum of Umnugobi aimag. Some 1500 domestic and 60 foreign travelers and tourists attended the festival, which has been organized since 2012. Herders of five soums took part in the festival with their 500 yaks, competing in yak race and relay competition. Challenges named after soums, contest of best breed yaks and cows, games and contests, presenting customs related to yak entertained the audience.
Philadelphia Orchestra performs in Ulaanbaatar
On the occasion of the 30th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the United States of America, the Philadelphia Orchestra visited Mongolia for the first time, performing its concert on June 9 at the State Philharmonic Hall in Ulaanbaatar.

Children’s writer J.Dashdondog nominated for Hans Christian Anderson Award
State Prize Laureate and State Honored Cultural Figure, children’s writer Jamba Dashdondog was included in the 33 nominations of 33 countries for the “Hans Christian Anderson Award” (HCAA), which is dubbed as "Nobel Prize for Children’s Literature”. J.Dashdondog is nominated for this internationally respected award for the second time. From his works, “Gurvan maral” (The three fallow deers), “Ger” (Home), “Yesogchin”, “Khar shuvuunii tsagaan tuukh” (White tale of a black bird) and “Uuduu haysan chuluu” (Karma) are nominated in the HCAA 2018.

The first Cinema Awards ceremony to award the best works in Mongolian cinema was co-organized by Arts Council of Mongolia and IMAX Cinema on May 19, Friday at the Corporate Hotel & Convention Center.

Director S.Sansar creates short film about circle of time
A Mongolian short film called “I am…”, directed by Sansar Sangidorj, is taking over the American audience. The film has been shot in the USA. It narrates about a circle of time and cycle of human life by a story of a boy riding a bicycle across playground, his neighborhood, then through busy streets and highways, and finally through blizzards as he grows old.
Museums present their activities for International Museum Day
The annual International Museum Day is being held today, on May 18 under the theme “Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in Museums” in front of the 'National Museum of Mongolia' in Ulaanbaatar. Created by the XI assembly of the International Council of Museums in Moscow, 1977, the celebration took place for the first time in May 18, 1978 in over 150 countries around the world. Since then, the International Museum Day has become a tradition for the museums of every country to celebrate under certain theme on May 18. As for Mongolia, this day was celebrated for the first time in 2003 and is now facing 14th consecutive year, as of today.

The event, dedicated to the 30th anniversary of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and USA, was attended by representatives from US State Department, US Department of Defense, World Bank, International Monetary Fund and Mongolians people residing in the US as well as foreigners who are interested in Mongolia.
Bogd Khan's Red Palace and its Contested History exhibition to take place
On the occasion of the International Museum Day, the “Bogd Khan Palace Museum” is planning to open an exhibition under the theme “The Bogd Khan’s Red Palace and its Contested History”. The opening ceremony will be held at the Bogd Khan Palace Museum, in the Ceremonial Square in front of the Peace and Happiness Gate on May 18, tomorrow.
Artists representing Mongolia in Venice Biennale 2017
Biennale Arte 2017, the 57th International Art Exhibition is open to public from May 13 November 26, 2017 in Venice, Italy, with over one thousand artists from 86 countries are participating. Mongolian artists, including State Prize Laureate artist Sh.Chimeddorj, artist O.Enhktaivan, who is a winner of the Union of Mongolian Artists prize and other young artists, J.Bolortuvshin, G.Munkhbolor and Ts.Davaajargal are participating and unveiling their exhibition titled "Heaven Survivors” to the public.
German group Minguet Quartett coming to Mongolia
German musical group Minguet Quartett is set to perform in Ulaanbaatar on May 19 at the State Philharmonic, by the invitation of Mongolian State Philharmonic and Goethe Institute Mongolia.

International choir festival euphoniously parades in Ulaanbaatar
On the occasion of the 70th anniversary of the origination of choral songs in Mongolia, “Ulaanbaatar Spring 2017” international choir festival is taking place between May 10 and 12 in Ulaanbaatar. Over thousand singers of 24 bands, including the artists of Mongolian professional music organizations such as State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet, Mongolian Military Song and Dance Academic Ensemble, Border Song and Dance Academic Ensemble, Mongolian State University of Arts and Culture and Music and Dance College of Mongolia, along with student choirs of P.I. Tchaikovsky College of Arts and artists from Inner Mongolia, China and Republic of Korea are participating in the festival.
Japanese culture day to take place on May 20
On the occasion of the 15th anniversary of the establishment of Mongolia-Japan Center for Human Resources Development, 'Japanese Culture Day' festival will take place at the Mongolia-Japan Center in Ulaanbaatar on May 20, Saturday. During the event, ‘How well do you know Japan? quiz, Japanese song competition and Japanese tea ceremony will be organized. Also, calligraphy arts of Japan and furoshiki - traditional Japanese wrapping cloth will be presented.
National Language and Script Day unfolds "Literary Geniuses” exhibition
By the order of the President of Mongolia, National Language and Script Day takes place within the first week of May. This year, the National Language and Script Day is being celebrated under the slogan “National Script: Guarantee of Independence”. Within the framework, a series of exhibitions displaying literary culture and xylography traditions of the Mongolian people, research conferences on Mongolian literature, events promoting the literary works and calligraphies of famous Mongolian scholars of all generations and meetings between authors and readers are taking place.
Mongolian model walks runway at Vietnam International Fashion Week
Mongolian photo model and Miss B.Gunzaya participated in a Vietnam International Fashion Week on April 25-28 in Ho Chi Minh City. She presented works by French designer Patrick Pem and Mongolian Fashion House “O Couture”. During the fashion week, over 20 collections by more than 20 international and domestic designers, including those from France, Australia, Portugal, the Republic of Korea, Thailand and Israel were presented by top models from South Korea, France, Russia and Vietnam.
The Carmen Suite ballet to be performed
A night of classic arts event by ballet dancer of the State Academic Theater of Opera and Ballet A.Ulzii-Orshikh will take place on May 15 at the theatre. A.Ulzii-Orshikh is a talented soloist who has been successfully performing for well-known classical, modern and traditional ballet plays, including Giselle, Sleeping Beauty, Nutcracker, Swan Lake, Spartacus and Uran Khas for the past 15 years.
