Ulaanbaatar, September 16, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Under the ‘Vegetable Production and Irrigated Agriculture’ project, implemented in 2020-2026, districts with crop farming in Khovd, Gobi-Altai, Zavkhan, Bayan-Ulgii, and Tuv aimags have rehabilitated and upgraded 11 irrigation systems.
As a result, more than 3,000 hectares are now irrigated for vegetables, fruits, grains, and fodder crops, while over 3,500 households receive technical assistance for vegetable cultivation. In particular, the 400-hectare irrigation system at Ulaan Del in Sagsai soum of Bayan-Ulgii aimag has been newly established, with 450 meters of sprinkler lines and piping installed, and water pumps ready for operation. The project will be completed and handed over to the state commission. A working group led by the State Secretary of the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry, Jambaltseren Tumur-Uya, visited the irrigation systems and agricultural facilities in Bayan-Ulgii aimag. Due to drought conditions and overgrazing, a severe winter is expected, and the region plans to bring over 800,000 livestock into economic circulation.
The aimag has seven meat-processing plants
with a daily capacity of 93.7 tons, producing for domestic consumption while
exporting sheep, goats, cattle, and horse meat to six countries. To date, five
plants have exported 381.6 tons of meat. Notably, ‘Azat’ LLC has signed
contracts to export 1,300 tons of sheep and horse meat. With 90 employees, the
plant slaughters 200 adult and 800 young livestock daily, producing nine tons
of adult meat, six tons of young meat, five tons of cooked meat, and five tons
of by-products, according to company CEO Kh. Berdimurat.
