Hermann Consten's book launched

Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. On the occasion of the 45th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations between Mongolia and the Federal Republic of Germany, a launch of a two-volume book ‘The Pasture Places of the Mongols –In the Realm of the Chalcha’ by German travel writer and Mongolian explorer Hermann Consten, photography exhibition and scientific conference ‘Hermann Consten’s inheritance and works’ were held at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia on October 22.
The event was co-organized by the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, the National History Museum of Mongolia, United Association of Mongolian Photographers and the Embassy of the Federal Republic of Germany in Mongolia.
Former Ambassador, publicist and translator B.Bayarsaikhan translated the Consten’s two-volume book into Mongolian, which is an important source for studying history of Mongolia and Mongolia-Germany relations.
Hermann Consten
traveled Mongolia several times in 1907-1913 and 1928/29 and published his travel
notes in two volumes in 1919. Hermann Consten was in Mongolia in 1911 when
Mongolia had independence revolution, proclaimed its independence and sent a
note on enthronement of Jebtsundamba Khutugtu to countries including the USA,
UK, France, Germany and Japan. He contributed to putting a basis of modern Mongolia
and Germany relations and cooperation.
During the scientific
conference, scholars discussed in detail about valuable contributions and
significance of Hermann Consten’s ‘The Pasture Places of the Mongols- In the
Realm of the Chalcha’ in Mongolian studies and noted the need for detailed
study of his work.
