During its plenary session on May 18, Thursday, Parliament made the final reading of and adopted a Law on Youth Development, producing the country’s first law for the younger generation.

Ulaanbaatar city department give three hotels in UB star rating
In accordance with a resolution of the Minister of Environment and Tourism based on the decision of a Commission to grant stars to high-class hotels, some hotels operating in Ulaanbaatar city were rated with three to five stars according to their quality. In particular, Best Western Premier Tuushin Hotel got five stars, Bishrelt Hotel - four stars, H9 /Hotel Nine/ and Springs Hotel each received three stars respectively.

"Future Champion" national puppy show approaching
A competition of 3-6 month-old puppies of Mongolian national breeds of dogs is taking place on Saturday, May 20, in the National Park of Ulaanbaatar. The competition is named “Future Champion”. There was a time when Mongolian “Bankhar” watchdogs had been on the brink of extinction. Now there are more than 40 dog shelters that only specialize by this pure national breed of dogs.

Training for human rights specialists taking place in Ulaanbaatar
On May 18-19, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the Office of the UN High Commissioner for Human Rights are co-organizing a training under the theme ‘Overview of international Human Rights system with a focus on Treaty Body reporting’ with a view to ensure the implementation of international treaties, make them comply with domestic laws, formulate report and deliver on time and improve the capacity of human rights specialists in the public sector.

Director S.Sansar creates short film about circle of time
A Mongolian short film called “I am…”, directed by Sansar Sangidorj, is taking over the American audience. The film has been shot in the USA. It narrates about a circle of time and cycle of human life by a story of a boy riding a bicycle across playground, his neighborhood, then through busy streets and highways, and finally through blizzards as he grows old.

Tengger Cavalry blows a new wind in the rock scene
Although the name Tengger Cavalry might not ring a bell to those who don’t have rock songs on their playlist, it must be definitely familiar to metal fans that are constantly on the lookout for new and good music.  The New York-based nomadic folk metal band Tengger Cavalry’s music surely has both qualities. The band has blessed the international rock music scene with a new genre and a new sound that is nomadic folk metal.  “International rock music mostly sounds western and not a lot of people are aware of Asian musical influence at all.  Now, people are starting to take an interest in Asian music”, shares Nature G, leader and founder of the group in an online interview with the Mongol Messenger.

IM Power proposes to build power plant near major coal mine in Gobi
On May 18, Prime Minister J.Erdenebat received a delegation headed by Mr Gordon Dickie, Managing Director of IM Power, and Ms Catherine Arnold, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of UK to Mongolia. The guests presented their request to build power plant based on Shivee Ovoo coal deposit. The project would cost around USD 1.2 billion. The power plant can be a reliable energy supplier for southern and eastern region of Mongolia, say the delegates.

The American Chamber of Commerce (AmCham) in Mongolia hosted its May Monthly Meeting with independent opinion leaders on Wednesday, May 17, 2017, at Shangri-La Hotel in Ulaanbaatar. The panelists, including Mr. Jargalsaikhan Dambadarjaa, Executive Director of DeFacto Institute; Mr. Sumati Luvsandendev, Director of the Sant Maral Foundation; and Ms. Ashleigh Whelan, Resident Program Director, Asia at the International Republican Institute, participated in an in-depth panel discussion, “Developing Private Sector Recommendations for the Presidential Candidates”.

Foreign Minister attends 73th session of ESCAP
The 73th Session of the Economic and Social Commission for Asia and the Pacific (ESCAP) of the United Nations is taking place in Bangkok, Thailand between May 15 and 19. Ts.Munkh-Orgil, Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia is paying a working visit in Bangkok, Thailand to attend the session as a panelist. The session is being held under the theme “Regional cooperation for sustainable energy” with an attendance of 45 members of ESCAP and delegates of other UN agencies.

25th anniversary of UNICEF Mongolia marked
On May 17, a meeting on the occasion 70th anniversary of the establishment of the United Nations Children's Fund (UNICEF) and the 25th anniversary of the foundation of UNICEF representative office in Mongolia took place in Ulaanbaatar.    The meeting was opened by Deputy Health Minister L.Byambasuren. In her speech, she underlined that the Ministry of Health of Mongolia has been collaborating closely with the UNICEF until today and UNICEF has made a great deal of contribution to the health sector of Mongolia.

Italy inflation up to 1.9% in April - ISTAT
(ANSA) - Rome, May 15 - Italy's annual inflation rate rose to 1.9% in April, up from 1.4% in March, according to ISTAT's flash estimate released on Monday. It is necessary to go back to January 2013, when the inflation rate was 2.2%, to find a higher figure. The national statistic agency added that its consumer price index was up 0.4% in month-on-month terms. The inflation leap was due to a 5.4% rise in electrical power prices and natural gas (+5.9%), as well as transport services (+5.5%).

Government obstacles to businesses to be eliminated legitimately
478 licenses out of 914, that are equired to be obtained by business entities were cancelled to support businesspeople through reducing barriers and red tape and the issue will be improved further by passing a law on Special license, said Minister of Justice and Home Affairs S.Byambatsogt. Today, the minister attended “Business breakfast” organized by Mongolian National Chamber of Commerce and Industry, sharing his views with businessmen on legal environment of businesses and pressing issues.

Museums present their activities for International Museum Day
The annual International Museum Day is being held today, on May 18 under the theme “Museums and contested histories: Saying the unspeakable in Museums” in front of the 'National Museum of Mongolia' in Ulaanbaatar. Created by the XI assembly of the International Council of Museums in Moscow, 1977, the celebration took place for the first time in May 18, 1978 in over 150 countries around the world. Since then, the International Museum Day has become a tradition for the museums of every country to celebrate under certain theme on May 18. As for Mongolia, this day was celebrated for the first time in 2003 and is now facing 14th consecutive year, as of today.

Ts.Jambaldorj, Ambassador of Mongolia to Italy met with Dorina Bianchi, Deputy Minister of Culture and Tourism of Italy. The two sides talked about future bilateral cooperation and steps to take following the meeting of the Mongolia-Italy Intergovernmental Commission held last April in Ulaanbaatar, in which Ms. Dorina Bianchi participated among Italian delegates.
