State Secretary of Foreign Ministry meets Austrian Ambassador
State Secretary of Ministry of Foreign Affairs D.Davaasuren met with Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Austria to Mongolia Irene Giner-Reichl in connection with her completion of her diplomatic service. The parties talked about bilateral cooperation, projects to be implemented with soft loan of EUR40 million from Austria within Intergovernmental agreement between Mongolia and Austria on financial cooperation.

Mongolian film wins Altan Khalis award
On June 9-11, the fifth Altan Khalis Independent Film Festival took place in Ulaanbaatar. The festival has been known as the first and foremost experimental film festival in Central Asia as Golden Reel International Underground Film Festival for 4 years. Starting from 2015, the film festival is broadening its reach of filmmaking world and, more than 260 films of 60 countries were sent and only 25 were selected this year.

Consumer price index increased nationwide
In May 2017, the national consumer price index across the country increased by 0.5 per cent compared with the previous month, by 4.7per cent compared with the end of previous year and by 3.7per cent compared with the same period of 2016. This change of 3.7 per cent from the same period of the previous year was mainly due to 9.8 per cent increase in prices of transport group (purchase of vehicles increased by 20.8 per cent), 2.1 per cent in food and non-alcoholic beverages group (milk products increased by 13.8 per cent) and 2.7 per cent in prices for clothing, footwear and cloth group.

Balance of payment deficit rises
Current and capital account balance resulted in deficit of USD 157.0 million in the first quarter of 2017 and increased by USD 6.1 million compared to the same period of last year. Current account saw deficit of USD 171.3 million, which was mainly due to deficit amounted to USD 372.0 million in services account and USD 256.4 million in primary account. Nevertheless, goods account surplus reached USD 418.4 million.

Registered unemployment lowered
At the end of May 2017, Labor and Social Welfare Services Agencies have registered 39.4 thousand job seekers, of which 72.3 per cent unemployed and remaining 27.7 per cent were people employed but looking for a new or extra job. Compared to the same period a year ago, registered unemployment decreased by 15.4 per cent, and by 13.7 per cent compared to a month ago. There are no major differences between registered unemployment by sex, with 51 per cent of women.

Master budget deficit reaches MNT 412.5 billion
In the first five months of 2017, total equilibrated revenue and grants of the General Government Budget amounted to MNT 2,666.6 billion and total expenditure and net lending amounted to MNT 3,079.1 billion, representing a deficit of MNT 412.5 billion.

Yoga performance to take place on Sukhbaatar square
A photography exhibition themed ‘Yoga – Peace and Harmony’ opened today at the National Museum. Co-organized by Embassy of India and the National Museum in the margins of the celebration of International Day of Yoga, the exhibition features photographs capturing yoga poses.

Altai airport launches new runway
Altai airport under the Civil Aviation Authority in Gobi-Altai aimag, situated in the western part of Mongolia, some 1000 km from Ulaanbaatar, has now new paved runway. The  opening ceremony was held  on 12 June with attendance of Minister of Road and Transport Development D.Ganbat, Chairman of the Civil Aviation Authority L.Byambasuren, MP Sh.Radnaased, authorities of Gobi-Altai aimag  and other officials.

Foreign trade surplus increases
In the first five months of 2017, Mongolia traded with 133 countries and total trade turnover reached USD 4,016.2 million, of which USD 2518.5 million were made up by exports and USD 1497.7 million, by imports. Total foreign trade turnover increased by USD 1.1 billion, in which, exports increased by USD 744.3 million and imports, by USD 325.7 million, compared to the same period of 2016.

Rail transport revenues grow
In the first 5 months of 2017, 8.4 million tons of freight and 1 047.1 thousand persons (double counting) were carried by railway. Compared to the same period of previous year, the number of carried freight increased by 943.9 thousand tons (12.6%) and the number of carried passengers decreased by 15.8 thousand persons (1.5%).

Parliament ratifies amendments to China’s USD 1 billion loan agreement
The State Great Khural (Parliament) approved and ratified the amendments to the General Agreement on Soft Loan signed by the Government of Mongolia and the Export-Import Bank of China on June 9.

The European Bank for Reconstruction and Development (EBRD) in Mongolia is holding a donor coordination meeting today, June 13, to address the current situation, obstacles in and solutions to SMEs access to finance in the country.

Mongolia to observe World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought
On June 17, the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought will be marked under the rallying call "Our land. Our home. Our Future”. On this occasion, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism will organize Mongolia-South Korea scholars' meeting on desertification and drought combat on June 15 in cooperation with the Institute of Geography and Geoecology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and Greenbelt Plantation project. The meeting will be attended by UN Resident Representative and other international delegates.

Weather forecast until June 18
Temporary thunderstorms are expected in central aimags on June 14, eastern aimags on June 15, central and eastern aimags on June 16, in some parts of western and central aimags and in most parts of eastern aimags on June 17. Winds will get stronger, reaching 6-11 m/sec, and 16-18 m/sec before the thunderstorms.

Mongolian scouts invite volunteers for Asia-Pacific Jamboree
The 31st Asia-Pacific Regional Scout Jamboree is going to take place in Mongolia between July 27 and August 2. This year’s motto will be “Go Nomad!”. The 2017 APR Jamboree is gathering about 6,000 kids from more than 50 countries. The jamboree is being carried out from one station to another. The first station will be a Nomadic Culture Complex for international participants to get familiar with the nomadic lifestyle and traditions. The next one will be an Adventure Complex, challenging the scouts’ bravery and teamwork skills.
