48th Ulaanbaatar Cup opens at Khandgait
The 48th Ulaanbaatar Cup international boxing tournament kicked off yesterday, June 21, in Ikh Tamir Sports Complex, located in Khandgait village. A total of 121 boxers from 10 countries, including Mongolia, Russia, China, Bhutan, India, Singapore, Taiwan and DPRK are being challenged for this year’s Ulaanbaatar Cup.

Unemployed rate decreased to 9.1 percent
The unemployment rate of Mongolia reached an all time high of 11.6 percent in the first quarter of 2016 with 143 thousand unemployed people.  Within the framework of the Government’s policies on improving livelihoods and restoring the economy through creation of jobs, multiple job creating projects and programs have been implemented. As a result, the unemployed rate has reduced down to 9.1 percent with 115 thousand unemployed people in the first quarter of 2017.

17th Roaring Hooves festival opens
The opening ceremony of the 17th ‘Roaring Hooves’ international music festival of contemporary music and folk was held today in Gandantegchenling Monastery. The festival was named ‘one of the 50 most unbelievable trips in the world. This year,  the Gandantegchenling monastery is cooperating with the organizers of the event to promote Buddhist traditions and cultural heritages in Mongolia.

Construction of UB - Mandalgobi electric line and sub-station starts
Construction of electric line between Ulaanbaatar and Mandalgobi and its sub-station, which targets to export electricity to China, started as the project launching ceremony took place this week. The project will be financed within general loan agreement of USD1 billion between Government of Mongolia and Export-Import Bank of the People’s Republic of China, established on November 10, 2015. TBEA Group of China will construct the line and sub-station as it won the bid.

Project commences for increasing Mongolia’s place in regional power distribution
A Technical Assistance Project on Strategy of Northeastern Asian General Power Grid Network has commenced implementation at the initiative of the Mongolian Ministry of Energy and the Asian Development Bank. The project research will focus on the details of how to connect Mongolian energy resources with the power grids of other countries in the region. Electricite De France, a leading electric utility company of Europe, is executing the research.

A joint communique on establishing diplomatic relations between Mongolia and Belize was signed on June 20 in New-York within the framework of a goal of Mongolia to establish diplomatic relations with all UN member states. Khovd to host first national festival of 'bii biyelgee'
The first national festival of Bii Biyelgee-2017, art and cultural event will take place on 1-3 July in Khovd aimag. Governor’s office of Khovd aimag, far western province of Mongolia initiated the event and Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports and the Government agency, Culture and Art Department are collaborating to organize the event.

COMPSTAT” being introduced in Metropolitan Police
On 20 June, opening of a “Control center” was held at the Police Department of the capital, starting introduction of COMPSTAT or “Сomputer statistics” aimed to establish unified control system on crimes in Ulaanbaatar. COMPSTAT is a combination of management, philosophy, and organizational management tools for police departments, named after the New York City Police Department’s accountability process. It offers a dynamic approach to crime reduction, quality of life improvement, and personnel and resource management, whereby ranking police department executives identify spikes in crimes using comparative statistics and address those spikes through the use of targeted enforcement.

Different breeds of sheep to be raised in mongolia
With an aim to improve sheep quality, Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry has brought in 657 sheep of Suffolk, Berrichon, Romanov and Merino breeds. These high-grade sheep will be used in Mongolian agriculture in accordance with the breeding strategic and policy. “Taishir-Urguu” LLC was selected as the first one to use them for breeding. The offspring of these sheep will be provided by order to private entities engaged in meat and wool production.
