Mongolia marking Buddha Day as public holiday
On June 5, today, Mongolia is celebrating the Buddha Day as an official public holiday for the first time. This day, which falls on the 15th day of the first month of summer every year, according to the Buddhist calendar, is dedicated to mark three momentous events in Buddha's life – his birth, enlightenment, and his departure from the human world.

UNDP hosts 'Systems Thinking for Local Development' online workshop
On June 2-3, the UNDP Mongolia hosted an online consultation around the system change approach for the local development policy formulation and implementation process, for the first time, in cooperation with Ulaanbaatar city, Arkhangai, Zavkhan, and Orkhon aimags’ Governor’s offices, within frame of the “Supporting implementation of the 2030 Agenda Project”.

ADB Opens Mongolian Togrog-Linked Bond Market
The Asian Development Bank (ADB) has raised 21 billion Mongolian togrog (MNT), about $7.5 million, in a groundbreaking issue of the first offshore MNT-linked nomad bonds. The issue sets a new benchmark in the international bond market for frontier currencies.

At today’s daily press briefing of the Ministry of Health, D.Nyamkhuu, Director of the National Center of Communicable Diseases (NCCD), announced one new confirmed COVID-19 case in the country, bringing the total number into 186.

Light industry training centers established with EU funding
With financing of the European Union, “Industry of the Future” blended training center and “Textile - Knitwear Finishing Incubator Center” opened yesterday, on June 3. The centers are established within “Support to Employment Creation in Mongolia (SECiM 2) Project” jointly running by the United Nations Industrial Development Organization (UNIDO) and the Ministry of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry of Mongolia.

Code of ethics introduced for tour guides
Capital City Tourism Department, Mongolian Tourism Association, and the Mongolian Professional Tour Guides Association signed a memorandum of cooperation on May 3 to develop tourism in Ulaanbaatar and support private public partnerships.

BoM purchases 1.7 tons of precious metal in May
In May 2020, the precious metal purchase of the Bank of Mongolia (BoM) was 1.7 tons, increasing the BoM’s total precious metal purchase of 2020 to 8.5 tons, of which 6.8 tons were gold and 1.7 tons were silver.

One of Nine Wonders of Dundgobi aimag: Sum Khukh Burd
The ancient historical and cultural site of Sum Khukh Burd is said to be the only oasis of the Gobi desert. The site is located 70 km to the northwest of the Dundgobi aimag center, and 18 km from the astonishing rock formations of Baga Gazriin Chuluu.

Nairamdal – 2 international children’s camp to be built in Khuvsgul aimag
