Groundbreaking ceremony takes place for memorial on remembrance day

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ A groundbreaking ceremony was held for a memorial to the Mongolians and Russians, who went off to the Great Patriotic War from Mongolia, outside the Russian Center for Science and Culture in Ulaanbaatar on June 22, at 9 AM (4 AM Moscow time, the time when the Great Patriotic War started in 1941), in commemoration of Russia’s national Day of Remembrance and Sorrow.


Present at the  ‘Always In Our Hearts’ event were Russian Ambassador Iskander Azizov, Belarusian Ambassador Stanislav Chepurnoi, Kazakh Ambassador Zhalgas Adilbayev, Chairman of the Russian-Mongolian Friendship Society, Chairman of the Mongolian Friendship Societies Union, Hero of the USSR, Hero of Mongolia, cosmonaut J.Gurragchaa, and other officials.


During the war years, over five thousand Mongolians and Russian expats left Mongolia for the front and more than a half of them did not make it back home.
