‘Ulaanbaatar Metro’ Construction to Begin in June 2026

Ulaanbaatar, December 9, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Governor’s Office of the Capital City of Ulaanbaatar announced on December 8 that the construction of the “Ulaanbaatar Metro” will begin in June 2026.
The Governor of the Capital City and the Mayor of Ulaanbaatar, Nyambaatar Khishgee, said, “The Ulaanbaatar Metro project consists of a single 19.4-kilometer line. The feasibility study has been completed, and a detailed environmental impact assessment has been conducted." he added, "We are currently selecting contractors from companies shortlisted during the prequalification stage. Construction will begin in June 2026, and the metro line is planned for handover in 2030.”
The distance between stations will range from 800 meters to
1.7 kilometers. The project will build twin tunnels with a diameter of
6.6 to 7.2 meters using the cross-passage tunneling method. The
system is expected to require a maximum installed capacity of 29 megawatts.
Four power-boosting substations will be built within station structures along
the line, and the trains will operate on 1,500-volt electrical power.
