Sales of mining output drop by 33.2 percent
Economy
Ulaanbaatar/MONTSAME/. According to the preliminary results,
the gross industrial output reached MNT 8.2 trillion in the first seven months
of 2020, decreased by MNT 2.0 trillion (19.3%) from the same period of the previous
year. This decrease was mainly due to MNT 1.9 trillion (26.4%) decrease in
mining and quarrying gross output. However, the electricity, thermal energy and
water supply production output increased by MNT 64.1 billion (10.1%) compared
to the same period of the previous year.
By preliminary results, the mining and quarrying gross
output reached MNT 5.4 trillion, in the first seven months of 2020, decreased
by MNT 1.9 trillion (26.4%) from the same period of the previous year. This
decrease was mainly due to decreases in the mining of coal and lignite by MNT
1.8 trillion (56.7%), and extraction of crude petroleum by MNT 444.1 billion
(74.9%) compared to the same period of the previous year. In July 2020, the
gross industrial output reached MNT 1.4 trillion, decreased by MNT 5.9 billion
(0.4%) from the last month. This increase was mainly due to MNT 7.7 billion
(0.8%) decrease in mining and quarrying output and MNT 3.6 billion (4.9%)
decrease in electricity, thermal energy, and water supply output.
However, in the mining and quarrying sector, extractions of
brown coal, copper concentrate, hard coal, and crude oil decreased by 4.0-65.2
percent. In the manufacturing sector, productions of cement, alcoholic,
alcoholic beverage, lime, cashmere products, copper cathode 99%, meat, metal
steel, concentrated coal, combed cashmere and cigarettes decreased by 1.6-63.8
percent compared to the same period of the previous year.
By the preliminary results of the first seven months of
2020, the sales of industrial output reached MNT 9.0 trillion, decreased by MNT
3.1 trillion (25.4%) compared to the same period of the previous year. This
decrease was mainly resulted from MNT 2.8 trillion (33.2%) decrease in sales of
mining and quarrying and MNT 298.5 billion (10.2%) decrease in sales of
manufacturing, though, the sales of electricity, thermal energy and water
supply increased by MNT 66.3 billion (10.4%).
The sales of mining and quarrying output decreased by MNT
2.8 trillion (33.2%) compared to the same period of the previous year. This
decrease was mainly resulted MNT 1.9 trillion (62.7%) decrease in sales of coal
mining, MNT 418.3 billion (9.4%) decrease in sales of mining of metal ores and
MNT 428.4 billion (76.9%) decrease in sales of crude petroleum extraction. In
the total sales of industrial output, MNT 4.8 trillion (53.3%) was export, of
which MNT 4.0 trillion (83.4%) was export of mining and quarrying output. In
the total of MNT 4.0 trillion export of mining and quarrying output, 69.7
percent was metal ores, 24.5 percent was of coal and lignite, 3.2 percent was
crude petroleum, 2.6 percent was other mining and quarrying output.
In July 2020, the seasonally adjusted industrial production
index was 104.0 (2015=100), decreased by 12.3 percent from the same period of the
previous year and by 6.8% from the end of the previous year, while it was
increased by 2.6 percent from the last month.
