Cabinet Secretariat L.Oyun-Erdene paid a visit to the Republic of India in this January. As a result of the visit, the sides resolved several issues on further advancing bilateral relations and trade and economic cooperation to a new level.
Whereas, during the meeting held yesterday, they talked over preparation works for India’s Foreign Minister S.Jaishankar’s visit to Mongolia scheduled in May this year, as well as celebration of the 65th diplomatic anniversary between Mongolia and India, progress of the project on establishment of oil refinery, export of Mongolia’s coking coal to India and opportunities to conduct its trial transport in the near future. The sides also touched an issue on launching space satellite.
“The Government of Mongolia attached great significance to coking coal export to the Republic of India, setting up a working group. If the side of India accepts the proposal, we have willingness to conduct trial transport of coking coal in the near future,” said Mr. L.Oyun-Erdene.
There is possibility to transport coking coal to India by rail through the Russian Federation if the sides reach an agreement to export coking coal. What is more, it was outlined in Mongolia-Russia Intergovernmental Agreement on terms for Rail Freight Transit Transport established in 2018 that Mongolia would enjoy stable tariff discount on the transit transport of its export goods crossing through the Russian Federation for 25 years.
Ambassador M.P.Singh officially expressed that as the India’s Government considers Mongolian coking coal satisfy quality requirements, it is fully possible to export it. “Since the Republic of India also signed cooperation document with the Russian Federation on rail transport discount, there will be no barrier to receive coking coal from Mongolia,” the Ambassador said.
Noting that the Mongolian Government is attaching great significance to the 65th diplomatic anniversary between Mongolia and India, Minister L.Oyun-Erdene put forth a request to the side of India on mutual exchange of 65 best youths in education sector to share experiences.
