National Consultation on Facilitating Cross-border Paperless Trade held

/MONTSAME/ On May 2, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia in
collaboration with the United Nations Economic and Social Commission for Asia
and the Pacific (ESCAP) organized the National Consultation on Facilitating
Cross-border Paperless Trade. The meeting involved international experts and representatives from United
Nations ESCAP Trade, Investment and Innovation Division and governmental and non-governmental organizations of Mongolia including the
Customs General Administration, State Specialized Inspection Agency and Communications
Regulatory Commission.
The
participants of the consultation discussed assessments conducted on Mongolia’s legal
and technical readiness for cross-border paperless trade and devised a National Action Plan. The action plan lays out proposed measures and activities to be
carried out such as joining the UN treaty titled ‘Framework Agreement on Facilitation of
Cross-border Paperless Trade in Asia and the Pacific', fully
digitizing domestic and foreign trade activities, as well as updating and harmonizing
information technology systems of government trade agencies.
It is worth
noting that export and import costs and time can be reduced through
acceleration of paperless trade process.
