Foreign Minister participates in virtual forum on Central Asian economic issues

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Minister of Foreign Affairs D.Tsogtbaatar participated in “Supporting the Revival of Private Sectors in Central Asia” ministerial-level virtual forum which was organized by the Organization for Economic Co-operation and Development (OECD) yesterday, on June 10.


The virtual forum was attended by the Ministers and Deputy Ministers for Trade, Investment and Economic Affairs of Afghanistan, Kyrgyzstan, Kazakhstan, Tajikistan, Turkmenistan and Uzbekistan and relevant officials of OECD, European Union (EU) and United Nations Economic Commission for Europe (UNECE).


Participants in the forum exchanged views and information on ways to overcome the challenges of social and economic development, foreign trade and economic cooperation caused by the COVID-19 pandemic, as well as best practices in the region.


Minister D.Tsogtbaatar has informed in detail on the policies and measures being taken by the Government of Mongolia and the Parliament to mitigate the negative impact of the pandemic on businesses and ensure the health and safety of its people.


Noting that the countries are facing unprecedented challenges and the economic consequences of the pandemic will continue to rise, Minister D.Tsogtbaatar emphasized that these challenges can only be overcome through the joint efforts of the international community and countries in the region. Moreover, he said that the countries need to strengthen health confidence as they resume trade and economic activities amid the pandemic.


The OECD, EU and UNECE expressed that they will continue to support Central Asian countries in overcoming the pandemic and achieving their long-term social and economic goals.
