Ulaanbaatar, September 30, 2025 /MONTSAME/. Mongolia currently allows an average of 1,500 coal transport vehicles to cross the border daily. During a visit to the Gashuunsukhait-Gantsmod port, First Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia and Minister of Economy and Development Uchral Nyam-Osor and Minister of Roads and Transport Delgersaikhan Borkhuu agreed to increase this number to 2,000–2,500 vehicles per day.

The Ministers of Mongolia met with officials of the People’s Government of the Inner Mongolia Autonomous Region of the People’s Republic of China to coordinate efforts to expand border crossing capacity, enlarge available space on Mongolian territory, increase the number of customs officers, and improve cargo handling procedures.

During the meeting, the two sides exchanged views on Mongolia’s policy to boost foreign trade turnover and expand exports of mineral products, particularly coal. They also noted results achieved since the formation of the new government, including trading coal via the exchange, streamlining border customs operations, and accelerating transportation.

To reach the 2025–2026 coal export targets, the parties agreed to increase the number of vehicles crossing the border to 2,500 per day, fully utilize port capacity, operate the automated AGV container terminal 24 hours a day, and allow certain imported cargoes to pass through border points.

Previously, coal was exported primarily under long-term, low-price contracts, and activity on the exchange was weak. Following the government’s resolution, the share of exported coal traded through the exchange rose from 8 percent to 31 percent, quadrupling the Mineral Resource Royalty collection and increasing national budget revenue.
