Ulaanbaatar, October 1, 2025 /MONTSAME/. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and the Embassy of Japan in Mongolia co-organized the second Mongolia-Japan Student Exchange Forum on September 30, 2025, at the Ministry’s premises.
The forum featured student presentations and discussions on environmental protection, ecosystem services, desertification prevention, the role of microorganisms in afforestation, urban greenery, and tree planting in arid and cold regions.
Japan has been a steadfast supporter of Mongolia’s “Billions of Trees” national movement. Over the past five years, Japan has implemented reforestation projects in Orkhon and Umnugovi aimags, planting 50,000 trees and restoring forest and saxaul ecosystems. In addition, Japan has engaged around 20,000 Mongolian youth in tree-planting activities, carried out educational programs on disaster preparedness, and promoted student exchanges between the two countries.
The forum brought together more than 30 students and professors from the Department of Environmental and Forest Engineering at the National University of Mongolia, the Department of Afforestation at the Mongolian University of Life Sciences, and universities in Japan, including Okayama, Wakayama, Tottori, Kyoto, Miyagi University of Education, and Tokyo University of Agriculture.
The inaugural Mongolia-Japan Student Exchange Forum was successfully held in Ulaanbaatar in 2023.
