President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa Meets UN Secretary-General António Guterres

Ulaanbaatar, September 24, 2025 /MONTSAME/. President of Mongolia Khurelsukh Ukhnaa and UN Secretary-General António Guterres held talks at UN Headquarters in New York on September 23, 2025.
President Khurelsukh Ukhnaa expressed strong support for the Secretary-General’s “UN80” initiative to strengthen the United Nations’ effectiveness and efficiency. He also welcomed the UN General Assembly’s adoption of the resolution on “World Horse Day”, initiated by Mongolia, and announced plans to mark the occasion annually under the UN framework on July 11.
President Khurelsukh briefed the Secretary-General on Mongolia’s intensive preparations to host the COP17 to the UN Convention to Combat Desertification in 2026, in Ulaanbaatar.
The President also reaffirmed Mongolia’s commitment to working closely with the UN to achieve tangible results in initiatives aimed at expanding the country’s participation in peacekeeping operations.
Secretary-General António Guterres
commended Mongolia’s active role in UN peacekeeping operations and its
leadership in addressing global challenges, including land degradation and climate
change. The Secretary General expressed his continued support for deepening
cooperation between the United Nations and Mongolia.
