Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The printing factory of ‘Gan Zam Press’ press center of the Ulaanbaatar Railways JSC has recently marked their 108th anniversary. During the ceremony organized on the occasion of the anniversary, the first ever European printing equipment acquired by Mongolia that was kept at the factory archives was placed at the hall of fame.
The printing factory of the Ulaanbaatar Railways was the first organization to introduce European technology in Mongolia, highlighted Director of ‘Gan Zam Press’ center U.Batzorig. Senior journalist, former head of the printing factory J.Nyamdash studied this matter throughout the last 20 years, and have found out that the railway factory was in fact the first Mongolian factory to acquire European technology.
The manually operated printing equipment with an embossment of the Imperial Standard of the Emperor of Russia is an important artifact of the Mongolian press history. Initially used at the Consular Office of Russia in 1912, the equipment later came to be in the ownership of the printing factory of the Ulaanbaatar Railways in early 1950.
Some researchers also believe that the first Mongolian newspaper, ‘Shine Toli’ (New Mirror), was printed using the equipment in 1913.
The anniversary ceremony was attended by First Deputy Head of Ulaanbaatar Railways I.V.Milostnykh, Hero of Labor of Mongolia R.Rash, and State Honored Cultural Figure, Professor T.Baasansuren.
First Deputy Head I.V.Milostnykh highlighted that the event is truly a great anniversary symbolizing the friendly relations between the people of Mongolia and Russia, coinciding with the historic anniversary of the first European printing equipment being brought to Mongolia.
Step-by-step measures are currently being taken by the railway company to renew the printing technology of the factory. Announcing that more attention will be paid to the development of ‘Gan Zam Press’ center, the executives presented awards to the top workers of the press center.
