Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. As per the decision of the State Emergency Commission and the Government of Mongolia, 807 Mongolian nationals will be brought back to Mongolia on three charter flights scheduled on April 30, May 1 and 2, reported the operative team of the State Emergency Commission today, April 29.

More specifically, 273 citizens that are transiting through Seoul, Republic of Korea from 7 countries will return to Mongolia on April 30. Furthermore, 271 citizens that are currently living in South Korea will also arrive on another charter flight from Seoul on May 1.

Another 263 citizens, who traveled to Frankfurt from 13 countries around the world to fly to Mongolia, will arrive on a charter flight from the German city on May 2, informed Director General of the Consular Department of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs L.Munkhtushig.

All of the people arriving on these flight along with the cabin crews will be placed under 21-day compulsory and precautionary isolation immediately upon arrival.

A total of over 1,800 Mongolians were brought to Mongolia on previous 8 chartered flights, and over 2,400 Mongolian citizens were allowed entrance to the country through autoroad and railway checkpoints, totaling the number of Mongolians to return home to over 4,300 since restrictions on passengers' travel and border movements were imposed.

According to the decision made by the SEC and the Government of Mongolia, requests submitted by citizens who wish to return to Mongolia from overseas on government-chartered flights have been carefully studied since February 1.

Currently, over 9,900 citizens have submitted their requests to return to Mongolia from 35 countries. At today's press conference, First Deputy Head of the National Emergency Management Agency, Brigadier General G.Ariunbuyan highlighted that the citizens are divided into groups, such as elders, persons with disabilities, pregnant women, mothers with young children, school children, and university students, and being selected for the charter flights after careful consideration with corresponding evidence. Addressing disruptive behaviors showed by some Mongolians at the Embassy of Mongolia in Seoul, Republic of Korea who demanded immediate repatriation to Mongolia on the forthcoming flights from Seoul, he requested the citizens to be respectful towards embassy's work and employees.

The SEC earlier explained that all requests by Mongolian nationals stuck abroad to return home can not be entertained at once due to limited number of mandatory isolation facilities in the country and the number of planes of the MIAT Mongolian Airlines - the national flag carrier that are available for charter flights.

As of April 29, there have been no new suspected cases of COVID-19 in Mongolia.
