Number of foreign workers in Mongolia decreased

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In the first quarter of 2020, 4.3 thousand foreign workers from 97 foreign countries were employed with labor contract in Mongolia including persons in employment work for pay or profit and persons in volunteer work without pay or profit. Compared with the same period of the previous year, the number of countries increased by 6, while the number of foreign workers decreased by 613 persons (12.4%).
Out of all foreign workers with labor contract in Mongolia, 3.5 thousand (81.8%) were male and 0.8 thousand (18.2%) were female.
From all foreign workers in Mongolia, 36.0% is from China, 8.7% is from Australia, 7.5% is from Russian Federation, 6.2% is from South Korea, 5.5% is from USA, 4.8% is from Vietnam, 3.9% is from South Africa, 3.8% is from Philippines, 3.0% is from Great Britain, 2.8% is from Canada and remaining 17.8% is from other countries.
By the age groups of foreign workers, the highest percentage or 16.4% was persons aged 45-49 years, 14.2% was persons aged 40-44, 15.0% was persons aged 35-39 and the lowest percentage or 0.3% was persons up to aged 20 years.
Out of total foreign workers by the first quarter of 2020, 1.5 thousand foreign workers (36.3%) are working in mining and quarrying sector, 979 foreign workers (22.7%) are working in education sector, 743 workers (17.2%) are working in wholesale and retail trade, repair of motor vehicles and motorcycles, 255 workers (5.9%) are working in manufacturing sector, 175 workers (4.1%) are working in transportation and storage, 158 workers (3.7%) are working in administrative and support service activities, 130 workers (3.0%) are working in construction sector and 0.3 thousand foreign workers (7.1%) are working in other sectors.
