Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ During a press briefing held today, March 10, Minister of Food, Agriculture and Light Industry Ch.Ulaan reports that there is enough reserve not to cause shortage of  basic food products in Mongolia.

Due to the first coronavirus case recorded in Mongolia, the citizens concern that food shortage could be caused. In regard to it, Minster Ch.Ulaan emphasized that there is sufficient reserve of basic food products such as meat, flour and rice.

He said that 12 thousand tons of meat have been reserved nationwide this year. The reserve-meat is being sold in Ulaanbaatar city through 270 sales points. This year 100-130 tons of meat will be supplied daily, which was 60-70 tons on average last year. Since it is almost sufficient for one-year need, meat shortage won’t be created. Furthermore, flour factories have wheat reserve that could ensure domestic need at 100 percent. Aside from it, entities have been selected to import 100 thousand tons of wheat in aims of preparing required strategic reserves. "So far, we have flour reserve for 3 to 4.5 months, different types of grain reserve for 2-4 months, sugar reserve for 3 months and vegetable oil reserve for 2.5 months."

According to market principle, huge demand causes price swing. Therefore, the Minister called on citizens not to cause sharp demand and affect the product price.
