Khovd /MONTSAME/. A project ‘Entrepreneurship-Focused Socioemotional Skills for Vulnerable Youth in Rural Mongolia’ is to be implemented in Khovd aimag between 2020 and 2023. The project measures will be co-conducted by the Save the Children Japan, the Ministry of Education, Culture, Science and Sports, the Ministry of Labor and Social Protection, the National Centre for Lifelong Education, the Government Implementing Agency Family, Children and Youth Development Agency, and the Governor’s Offices of Khovd aimag and soums.

A meeting was held in Khovd aimag to introduce the project and share information. During the meeting, the project team discussed future actions to be taken, and some matters that require attention.

A memorandum was also signed to co-implement the project, ‘Entrepreneurship-Focused Socioemotional Skills for Vulnerable Youth in Rural Mongolia’, in Khovd aimag. The project will be implemented in 25 soums of the aimags of Khovd, Zavkhan, Uvurkhangai, Gobisumber, and Sukhbaatar with a non-refundable aid of USD 2.7 million from the Japan Social Development Fund.

Despite having high education attainment, Mongolia ranks at 130th place out of 187 countries for its skilled personnel. Thus, teenagers and youth in rural areas will be involved in educational training for entrepreneurship-focused socioemotional skills that meets the demands of the labor market.

Six soums will be involved in the project from Khovd aimag. The sides highlighted the importance of conducting studies on the soums’ strategic development plans and the labor market prior to the works to be done in the project framework. Studies are to be conducted on children and youth, and specialized curriculum and guidelines will be developed in the framework of the project in 2020.
