Winners of the 2nd annual English essay contest awarded

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. The Mongol Messenger, English weekly newspaper operated by the MONTSAME National News Agency in collaboration with the British Embassy in Mongolia, organized the second annual contest in English among 10th to 12th-grade students of high schools in Ulaanbaatar. The award ceremony of the contest was held at the Press Center of MONTSAME News Agency on January 10.
Deputy Director of MONTSAME News Agency Sh.Batbold and Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of the United Kingdom of Great Britain and Northern Ireland to Mongolia Philip Malone delivered opening remarks at the event. In his remarks, Mr. Philip Malone expressed gratitude for organizing the contest and congratulated the contestants. In his speech, he said, "I am very pleased with the subject that was chosen for this year’s essay, revolving around what are the advantages and the positive things Mongolia can display to the world. As I have lived in Mongolia for nearly two years now, I know how many wonderful things there are in this country. I think having the English language as a medium to promote Mongolia to the world will benefit Mongolia in the long run.”
Student of Mongolian-Russian Joint School T.Sunder won first place, while the second and third places went to student of Mongolian-Russian Joint School B.Bilguun, and student of the Ulaanbaatar Branch of the Plekhanov University of Economics G.Telmuun respectively. They were each presented with first, second, and third-place trophies, certificates, and cash awards as well as gifts of the co-organizer, the British Embassy in Mongolia.
The aims of the annual essay contest are to support high school students develop their English writing skills, demonstrate the young people’s insights on the capability of Mongolia to go global, how they value their motherland, and promote Mongolia to the world by sharing the best essays and increasing youth role for this goal.
Students from around 10 high schools in Mongolia, such as Mongolian-Russian Joint School, Ulaanbaatar Branch of Plekhanov Russian University of Economics, Mongol Aspiration International Laboratory School, and 38th and 97th schools took part in this year’s contest. The best essays will be published on the Mongol Messenger newspaper, and the first place winner’s essay will also be published on the Mongolia Today magazine.
The contest will be organized annually.
