16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ In collaboration with the UN Population Fund, Parliamentary Standing Committee on Legal Affairs and the National Committee on Gender Equality are to organize 16 Days of Activism against Gender-Based Violence from November 25 to December 10.
More than 180 countries in the world celebrate November 25 as the International Day for the Elimination of Violence against Women under a common purpose. Mongolia is going to run the campaign for the 22nd year under the theme ‘Let’s understand and respect’ together with government, non-government organizations and international organizations.
This year’s campaign is calling public upon respecting each other’s rights, understanding each other and honoring healthy relationship to be separate from any forms of violence, reports organizers of the campaign. “Combating violence is not an issue of only women”, Member of Parliament Ts.Munkh-Orgil said and he called men for joining the campaign and actively take part in eliminating any forms of violence.
"Out of many types of violence, sexual harassment in the work place has tendency to be increased in recent years. According to the survey, 1 in 5 persons experienced workplace sexual harassment while 1 in 3 persons answered that they know someone else who became victim of violence. 85 percent of those victims is young girls and women and the survey also reveals that 57.6 percent of them work in civil services. Therefore, to regulate it with law the Parliament is working to make amendments on Law on Labor, Law on Civil Service and Laws on Criminal Code and Offence," MP and Head of the Sub-Committee on Human Rights N.Oyundari said.
As of October 2019, police recorded 28 thousand 599 crimes, of which 884 were domestic violence. This is an increased performance by 18 crimes comparing to the same period of the previous year, stressed the officials.
