Cold snap is on the way

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ The National Agency of Metrology and Environmental Monitoring has issued extreme cold weather and snow storm warning, especially warned herders, drivers and citizens to be careful during cold snap.


Snow and snow storm are expected in most parts of western aimags and in northern parts of central aimags on February 1-2.


Slight snow is expected to fall in most areas of western and central aimags, in some areas of eastern aimags on February 2; in most areas gobi aimags and in some areas of central and eastern aimags on February 3; and in northern parts of western aimags and in some areas of central and eastern aimags on February 5.


Wind will get stronger in most of the country on February 2 and February 5, reaching 16-18m/s. The wind speed will reach 12-14m/s in western parts of the country on February 3 and in some areas of the country on February 4, followed by dust and snow storms.


Although the temperature rise is expected in most of the country on February 4, it will drop in remaining period of the weather forecast.

In the depression of Uvs lake, Darkhad; in the head of Zavkhan river; in the basins of Ider and Tes rivers, the nighttime temperature will be -38 to -43 degrees Celsius, the daytime temperature will be -27 to -32 degrees Celsius.


In the Great Lakes depression; near Khurenbelchir, in the banks of Orkhon-Selenge; in the basins of Eg-Uur, Kharaa, Yuruu, Tuul, Terelj, Kherlen, Onon, and Khalk rivers, the nighttime temperature will be -32 to – 37 degrees Celsius. The daytime temperature in those areas will be -18 to -23 degrees Celsius.


In southern parts of gobi regions, the daytime temperature will be relatively milder ranging from -9 to -14 degrees Celsius and the nighttime temperature will be -18 to -23 degrees Celsius.


The other areas will have nighttime temperature ranging from -24 to – 29 degrees Celsius and the daytime temperature – 14 to – 19 degrees Celsius.
