Swiss Foreign Minister pays visit to Mongolia

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ At the invitation of the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Mongolia D.Tsogtbaatar, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Swiss Confederation  Ignazio Cassis is paying an official visit to Mongolia on April 4-6, 2018.

The first official visit from Switzerland at Foreign Ministeral level is important to strengthen friendly relations and mutual trust between Mongolia and Switzerland. It will also contribute to stimulate trade and economic cooperation and develop the cultural and humanitarian exchanges between the two countries.

During the visit, the Ministers of Foreign Affairs exchanged views on expanding the political, trade and economic cooperation, increasing investment and enhancing the cooperation in agriculture, transportation, energy, tourism, education, science and technology sectors. Also some documents of cooperation were signed.


Within the scope of his visit Minister of Foreign Affairs Ignazio Cassis will pay a courtesy call on President of Mongolia Kh.Battulga and meet with Minister of Finance Ch.Khurelbaatar and members of Mongolia-Switzerland parliamentary group to exchange views on bilateral cooperation issues.

Swiss Development Agency is an important part of the bilateral cooperation and it started its cooperation  in 2001 with humanitarian aid to assist herders who suffered from harsh winter and since 2004 it has been expanded to development program and until 2016 they have implemented projects worth CHF 100 million in Mongolia.

Many projects are implemented by Swiss Development Agency in areas of agriculture, food safety, vocational education, trainings, governance reform, local administration, civic engagement and these projects have contributed to the sustainability of socio-economic development, diversification of the economy, improvement of livelihoods and strengthening democracy in Mongolia.

Swiss Development Agency has implemented projects worth CHF 100 million from 2004-2016 and they will continue to implement the projects until 2018-2021.
