Regulations for assistance and allowance for the elderly and disabled approved

Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/ During yesterday’s cabinet meeting, the Government approved regulations on Provision of services, assistance and support to the elderly; Establishing the Elderly Funds; Eligibility of the elderly and persons with disabilities to use public transportation free of charge regardless their residence location; Managing and using database on the elderly employment; and Provision of aids and assistance to persons with disabilities.
According to the rules, elderly persons and persons with disabilities will travel in public transportations except taxis in the capital as well as in the aimag centers free of charge not depending on if they live in the capital or in rural areas. Citizens can apply for welfare departments of aimag, capital city and districts in order to be involved in the welfare service. An electronic travel card for free travel is to be valid for two years and is subject to extension when it expires.
The elderly and persons with disabilities will be provided with necessary prosthesis, having discount from the Health Insurance Fund by ordering the prosthesis to entities, which have contract with a health insurance organization. Moreover, price discount for the prosthesis, which is non-refundable from the Health insurance fund or was made abroad, will be available from the Social Welfare Fund.
Transportation cost from rural area to aimag or to the capital of caretaker and children with disabilities, who are studying in aimag or the capital will be covered by government once per year.
The elderly can enjoy discounts at standard tariffs, approved by the government for sanatoriums or resorts for elders once a year. For example, when the elderly stays in an accredited the sanatorium, the payment will be at price of a normal room for a citizen with health insurance, the one-way transportation cost will be discounted by 50 per cent for the elderly and by 100 per cent for honorary donors and the state honored people.
Heroes of labor of Mongolia, veterans as well as wife or husband of a person, who died in a war are given monetary aid for apartment payment or payment for fuel in case they live in Ger district. The Government made a decision to increase the allowance twice.
