COVID-19: 2366 new cases, 13 deaths reported
At the regular press briefing of the Ministry of Health for today on June 24, it was reported that 2,366 new cases were detected in Mongolia. More specifically, 1,482 new cases were detected in the capital city, 879 cases in aimags and five hospital-acquired cases.

Second batch of Pfizer-BioNTech vaccines received
On June 23, the second batch of Pfizer-BioNTech COVID-19 vaccines were received per the agreement signed between the Government of Mongolia and Pfizer Inc signed in May 2021 for 2.5 million doses of vaccine in 2021.

Gandantegchinlen Monastery area to be developed into cultural tourism zone
At its regular meeting today on June 23, the Cabinet supported the suggestion to develop the nearby area of Gandantegchinlen Monastery into a cultural tourism zone, and gave out orders to develop a feasibility study and corresponding blueprints for the project.

Births decreased by 4.3 percent in the first five months of 2021
In the first five months of 2021, 30.0 thousand mothers gave birth at the national level, which decreased by 1352 (4.3%) compared to the same period of the previous year. There were 88 (0.3%) home births registered, decreased by 22 (20.0%) compared to the same period of the previous year.

Children aged 12-15 to be offered COVID-19 vaccine
On June 23, the cabinet of ministers of Mongolia held its regular weekly meeting. With some research and studies on inoculation of children with vaccines against coronavirus, the government accepted the recommendation of the manufacturer of the Comirnaty COVID-19 vaccine (Pfizer–BioNTec) to use it for children aged above 12 years old.

A joint study conducted by doctors and researchers at the National Center for Mental Health and the Mongolian National University of Medical Sciences on ‘Main Characteristics of Dermatoglyphics Associated with Schizophrenia and its Clinical Subtypes’ has been published on PLOS One, a peer-reviewed scientific journal by the Public Library of Science (PLOS).
