At its regular meeting today, the Cabinet put out a resolution to develop universities in rural areas as academic, research and indsturial complexes.

Coal export increased by 60 percent
Coal export to China is constantly growing. In the last three weeks, a total of 6,919 trucks and 2,017 wagons of coal crossed the border, which means it has risen by about 60 percent compared to the three weeks in August to September.

Balance of payments to be in surplus of USD200 million
The central bank considers that the economy is expected to have a 5.9 percent growth next year, which will be mainly due to the post-pandemic recovery of non-mining sector. It is also stated in a draft Basic Guidelines for 2022 State Monetary Policy that direct foreign investment and export earnings will support internal circulation, highlighted Governor of the Bank of Mongolia B.Lkhagvasuren at the meeting with the press on October 18.

75 percent of children involved in vaccination in the capital city
 Ulaanbaatar /MONTSAME/. Since COVID-19 vaccination rollout launched, 74.6 percent of the citizens in the capital city have had the first dose of the vaccine and 71.1 percent have been fully vaccinated, while 18 percent have gotten their third shot.

Rio Tinto caught red-handed
While Rio Tinto has not provided concrete responses to the findings of the independent experts, Rio Tinto started to publicize their position on major global media outlets such as mining.com and financialtimes.com stating that “One of the factors that contributed to the US$1.45 billion cost overrun is the increase in investment costs for Mongolian workers.” In other words, while Rio Tinto initially explained “Cost overruns and project delays were due to ground conditions,” pointing at an inanimate object, they are now blaming their Mongolian workers. Outraged by the statement, the executives of Oyu Tolgoi’s mine workers’ trade union submitted a letter of demand to Kh. Amarjargal, Country Director in charge of Rio Tinto’s operations in Mongolia.
