Two Mongolian singers qualify for final round of BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2017
On June 11-18, the final round of BBC Cardiff Singer of the World 2017 is taking place in Cardiff, Wales. The competition for opera and art singers held every two years. Currently, twenty finalists are selected to perform in front of a jury of distinguished opera experts and equally discerning experts in the final stage of the competition.
Cabinet meeting in brief
The Cabinet discussed results of official visit of Vietnamese Vice President Ms. Dang Thi Ngoc Thinh to Mongolia and decided to submit it to the National Security Council. - The Cabinet discussed the approval of the establishment of Central Asia Regional Economic Cooperation (CAREC) Institute and decided to submit the relevant draft bill to Parliament.
Political consultation between Foreign Ministries of Mongolia and Germany held
On June 14, political consultation meeting between the Ministries for Foreign Affairs of Mongolia and Germany took place in Ulaanbaatar. The meeting was led by D.Davaasuren, State Secretary of the Foreign Ministry of Mongolia and Mr. Norbert Riedel, Regional Director for Asia and the Pacific of the Federal Foreign Office of Germany.
Mongolian film wins Altan Khalis award
On June 9-11, the fifth Altan Khalis Independent Film Festival took place in Ulaanbaatar. The festival has been known as the first and foremost experimental film festival in Central Asia as Golden Reel International Underground Film Festival for 4 years. Starting from 2015, the film festival is broadening its reach of filmmaking world and, more than 260 films of 60 countries were sent and only 25 were selected this year.
Rail transport revenues grow
In the first 5 months of 2017, 8.4 million tons of freight and 1 047.1 thousand persons (double counting) were carried by railway. Compared to the same period of previous year, the number of carried freight increased by 943.9 thousand tons (12.6%) and the number of carried passengers decreased by 15.8 thousand persons (1.5%).
Mongolia to observe World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought
On June 17, the World Day to Combat Desertification and Drought will be marked under the rallying call "Our land. Our home. Our Future”. On this occasion, the Ministry of Environment and Tourism will organize Mongolia-South Korea scholars' meeting on desertification and drought combat on June 15 in cooperation with the Institute of Geography and Geoecology of the Mongolian Academy of Sciences and Greenbelt Plantation project. The meeting will be attended by UN Resident Representative and other international delegates.
Taxes imposed on hybrid vehicles to be refunded
During its irregular meeting on June 9, Friday, the Cabinet set the rate of tax on hybrid, natural gas and electric vehicles at zero percent until July 1 and at 50 percent from July 1. Resolution of the Government is valid from June 9. The vehicles to be covered under the new tax policy include full hybrid electric automobiles such as Toyota Prius, which is the most popular used cars in Mongolia.

On June 12, S.Tsoggerel, Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary of Mongolia to the Democratic People's Republic of Korea /DPRK/ received Han Song-ryol, Vice Minister of Foreign Affairs of the DPRK to have dinner at the Embassy of Mongolia in Pyongyang.

The World Open, Sub-Junior, Junior & Master Equipped Bench Press Championships are taking place in Kaunas, Lithuania on May 22-27.
