Asian News Agencies Focus on Reaching Young Generation

Ulaanbaatar, March 11, 2024 /MONTSAME/. The
52nd Executive Board Meeting of the Organization of Asia-Pacific News
Agencies (OANA) was held on March 6-8, 2024 in Tokyo, Japan. The Meeting was
attended by senior officials of news agencies from 14 countries in the region.
Formed in 1961 on UNESCO's initiative, OANA brings together 44 news agencies from 35 countries that supply two-thirds of the information circulated throughout the world.
MONTSAME Mongolian National News Agency has
been actively participating in OANA activities since the agency joined OANA in 1981.
MONTSAME was elected as an Executive Board Member at the OANA General Assembly
held in Istanbul, Turkey in 2010, and successfully hosted an Executive Board Meeting
in 2011 in Ulaanbaatar. Subsequently, MONTSAME Mongolian National News Agency was
re-elected as an Executive Board Member in 2013, 2019, and 2022, and as a
member of the Technical Committee in 2016 for the third time.
At the 52nd OANA Executive Board Meeting, the participants discussed numerous issues including new opportunities and challenges facing news organizations, and the features in operations of news agencies in the digital era. At a time when society is evolving at a rapid pace and looking for the shortest way to get information, the news agencies’ officials shared their opinions, particularly on the dissemination of information in an innovative way to reach the young generation who widely use smart technology and social media. Also, the issue of strengthening the financing of media agencies was one of the top topics of the Meeting.
During the 52nd Meeting, Sodontogos Erdenetsogt, Director of MONTSAME Mongolian National News Agency met with Toru Mizutani, President of Kyodo News Agency of Japan, and Mikhail Gusman, First Deputy Director General of TASS Agency of the Russian Federation, and the News Agencies renewed their cooperation agreements.
Moreover, Director Sodontogos met Jassim Al Hamadi, adviser to the Director General of Qatar's QNA agency, Vu Viet Trang, General Director of Vietnam's VNA news agency, Kiril Valchev, Director General of Bulgaria's BTA news agency, and agreed to implement cooperation projects. In addition, Director Sodontogos met with the authorities of the news agencies of China, Malaysia, Iran, and South Korea, exchanging opinions on new areas of bilateral cooperation between the news agencies.
